F1 2001 - weird problem

by Andre Warrin » Fri, 30 Nov 2001 18:01:32

I  did a clean install of Windows and then installed F1 2001 + patch.
All worked ok, but yesterday I played it again, and had -major-
stutter on the first lap, talking about 1 second stutters on the first
lap. From lap 2 all was ok again.

When I leave to the main menu and restart the race, the stuttering is
back again, untill lap 2.

Weird eh? I've got enough mem I think, 256mb, and before the patch I
didn;t have this problem. Any ideas?

P3 866
GF2 GTS det. 12.90 drivers
Dx 80a (I tried 8.1 but I had problems with it)
256mb mem

Andr, someone is trying to tell you that you are not allowed to play this
game ! Next time you reinstall windows and the game, all cars will be
displayed upside down...

Om my PC F12001 is shit too. Before and after the patch my version simply
does not allow me to go back from e.g. a test session to the previous menus.
But I did test the FF, and apart from as lot of rumble in my wheel I did not
yet enjoy the standard settings very much (on my LWFF). So I stopped playing
the game.

Use 22.80 (or 21.xx) drivers.

Also, check your sound drivers.  I had alot of problems with GPL and
dodgy sound drivers causing the 1 second stutters your talking about.

All the best,
Ash

F1 2001 - weird problem

I'm affraid you're right.. and I don't get it, I allways praised EA's
F1CS, why would they built a security in every copy of F1 2001 so that
it runs like ***on my computer?
Revenge of Fluffypony perhaps?

Besides the 1st lap stuttering I got everything running now, including
the force feedback, and it's really great. FF helps so much in feeling
when the car is about to loose it, it's so much fun racing on the
limit now, and so far the AI seems very good too.
Only multiplayer is crap, allthough I haven't tested it after the
patch, but I don't suspect it has improved much - if any.

Anyway, when you change your ff settings, don't go to the player
screen since it seems to reset your ff values. Make the changes (I
recommend Pat Donson's ff settings he posted here a couple of days
ago) the only setting I changed was that setting that shows how much
grip the tires have, Pat has that on 3, I set it to 5.

F1 2001 still seems a pain in the ass to get it working correctly, but
once it works it's really great.

Andre / PS, what is the alt code to get that ' on the e ?
? ? ? ? a ? it must be somewhere ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

>Use 22.80 (or 21.xx) drivers.

Hmm.. you know, after I had the problems with f1 2001, I tried a
couple of different drivers, including the 21.xx  drivers. After
messing around a bit every program I tried crashed, including GPL.
I now did a clean windows install and installed the 12.90 drivers
which never gave me problems. Also I didn't have stutters before the
patch, so I think the 12.90 should work ok with F1 2001?

Another problem. The drivers that came with my SBlive card are really
old, since I bought the card as soon as it came out.
So I went to www.sblive.com and tried to download the drivers..

But the folks at sblive have gone mad, they took down all the software
and you must order it on a cd - which is not even ready yet.
The only driver that shows up when I choose drivers for SBLive is 1
file, and from the description it was not clear to me what it's use
was. I tried installing it but then I got a message 'this update is
not meant for your system'.

So.. where can I download the latest drivers for my SBLive card?

Cheers,
Andre

Hey you were the one that recommended the 12.90 drivers to me :)
So the 23.10 are better? You also have a GF2 GTS?

Andre,

How did you backpedal from 8.1 to an earlier DX?  I've tried various DX
uninstallers & they sure don't work for me.

Oh that was easy. Make a DOS bootdisk, restart the pc with the
bootdisk in it and type:
deltree c:\windows
Then, insert your Windows cd en install it.

Ok, I had to do that because after messing around with drivers all my
games froze after starting.
I did try those dxuninstallers a couple of times btw, with dx6 and 7.
Allways worked for me so far.
I believe Dan posted a dxuninstaller for dx8 here a couple of days
ago..

Andre
I recommended them when I had a GF2 Ultra, and no patch.  Now I've got a GF3
Ti500 and the patch is out, and 22.80s and 23.10s are perfect.  I've heard
that GF2s are better with the 12.90s, but I don't know.
