Only one current card will help ICR2, the Intergraph Reactor. It ships
with a new Rendition Ready enhanced full version (it will not change the
regular off the shelf version). Sierra's own card (the Screamin'3D) will
also come with ICR2, but will not be out until sometime in November.
Yes it's true that GP2 (and basically all other current DOS games) will not
make use of any 3D accelerator. A game must either be written directly for
one of the cards (like the Rendition Ready ICR2) or make use of Win95's
Direct3D (like Monster Truck Madness and Hellbender).
The Reactor is a 4meg PCI card and has a maximum resolution of
1280x1024x16-bit in Win95. With the initial drivers the card is
indistinguishable from my old ATI Mach64. As the drivers progress (new
ones are due out at the end of next week) I expect 2D Windows performance
to continue to improve. VESA 2.0 SVGA speeds are quit fast (I think the
only things faster are the ET6000 based cards).
For under $200, I fell it is a very good all-in-one graphics solution.
