F1RC demo and split axis - any success?

F1RC demo and split axis - any success?

by Darko Juva » Tue, 06 Feb 2001 12:08:35

I have TSW wheel and I'm desperately trying to make split axis work with
F1RC demo. Anybody have any success in making split axis working in demo?
Thanks in advance.

Darko

PS
Ubisoft supposed to release "real F1 simulator" on March 15. Such a basic
thing as split axis support should be already in the game. Strange?

Oh brother...not another one (a brain dead game trying to pass itself off a
sim.).  Lack of immediate and simple split axis support is the first give
away that this is NOT a sophisticated title.  Every time.

Based on someone else's comments, I understand the***pit view is not the
default view.  There's another giveaway. :)

I just tried it, and I dislike it.  The force feedback is implemented so
strangely, it almost seems like the car is steering itself.  Maybe F1CS2K
is a little weak in the FF department, but at least you're driving the
car.

Works fine on my LWFF.

Only thing I dislike is the lack of centering with FF.

Other than that, it's an excellent sim. It's not running full physics,
but from judging on pro physics, it's certainly one to keep an eye on.

(and those already condeming it, I recommend you *try* it before you
lay the boot in)

Cheers,
Rod.

Of course you don't need to try it before you can condemn it.  :-)

Apparently some don't need to try the full version either, to praise
it to the high heavens already. :-) Quotes like "the sound sucks but
I'm sure it's better in the full version" make me laugh.

Well, the sound is SO bad, they can't possibly release it with the
sound from the demo..

Hmm, now for GP3 there wasn't a demo, but if there were one, I would
have thought "they can't possibly release the full version with these
yucky graphics ... ". But they did, so there. :-)

Maybe I'm asking too much here, but I'll go a bit further than the original
question.  ---- Does the F1RC demo support multiple controllers (ie - LWFF
with TSW pedals) with split axis?  Configuring both F1RS and MGPRS2 this way
was an iffy proposition at best.

Hmm.. good point :)
But to be honest.. the best sounds are allways the user-made sounds,
so hopefully F1RC will be easy to edit.
I just spent another hour on the demo and I start to like it more and
more.. Especially Eau Rouge is -very- well done imho, it's a real
challenge!
Man, 6 long weeks before the full version is released..

I have no problems with the FF. I use W2k, Guillemot  Ferrari FF-Wheel + CH
Product's PRO Pedals (old one, on the SB-Live Port) - FF is strong enough -
you have to play around with the steering settings....

Sound is okay,***pit view is also nice (who need's fancy bitmap steering
wheels), engine is a little bit high, gfx is great, driving model + physic
are the best I've seen (since GPL) - way better than F1CS & GP3, let's wait
for the final, to test the expert driving model

True, but I think the problem with the sounds in the demo is not just
how they sound but also how they work. For instance most of the time
the tire screeching is amiss, especially when you need it (starting to
slide, getting wheelspin etc).

Really? I found it rather easy with the castrated car you are allowed
to drive in the demo. Is it just me or is the garage not working
either? The setup surely needs shorter gears and/or less wing.

Thomas, you got the CH pedals working in F1RC? How? I also have them
on SBLive port, F1RC doesn't reckognize them..

go to your game input settings (Windows) and add the "two 2-axes, 2-button,
joystick on one gameport"
