F1 2000 / Voodoo 5

Hello everyone!

I bought F12K at the weekend and I'm having a problem: I can
do Test Days OK, but if I select Quck Race, Grand Prix, or
Championship, then the game crashes back to the Windows desktop
just after the loading screen (the one with the display of the
track and the flashing progress bar at the bottom). After this
screen the display goes black, I get a very brief sound
effect snippet, then it's back to the desktop.

I've tried:
   * Killing off all other software (except Explorer and Systray)
     before starting the game.
   * Removing and re-installing the game.
   * Shouting at my computer
   * Software mode
   * Direct 3D mode
   * Re-installing my video driver
   * Running in different resolutions
   * Closing my eyes and crossing my fingers
all without success.

Co-incindentally, when I bought the game I also bought a
Voodoo 5 5500, so I'm wondering if there's some sort of driver
issue. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any newer driver
available.

Anyone else successfully running F12k with a Voodoo 5 5500?
Anyone got any ideas? I getting fed up of driving around
that track on my own!

Cheers,
Dave.

How about other titles with your V5 5500 ? that's weird coz with F1
2000, the V5 5500 with and without FSAA runs fine (the game sucks.. but)
..no issue, let's say.

check the FAQ message in the "SUPPORT Voodoo 5"  forum  and follow

Do you frankly believe F1 2000 is a good representation of F1 ?? I mean, you
think
the driving view is like this ? the tracks are accurates ? the physics is
accurate ? You also think that the tyre temps goes that high after two laps ?

I might not know sims, but I know F1 2000 is wrong

laps ?

It is certainly close enough to be a fantastic modern F1 sim. The
only sime where the physics *might* be better is GPL. Also because
the GPL tracks are so old, their representation in GPL may be off.
In fact F1 2000 is most likely closer to the real thing :-)

Well good for you!!!

So what exactly is this web site? Is it yours? Does it somehow
qualify you to have a better opinion? Obviously not.

Here's a reality check for you. It's a friggin' game and I don't know
of one better F1 sim right now. Yes, I've played them all. It may not
be totally accurate, but it doesn't "suck".

Runs well on my V5-5500.  Haven't had any problems (yet) with the V5
and any game I've tried.
I know many people don't like F1 2k, but I happen to enjoy it quite a
bit.  (which means nothing,  other than some people do like it ) :-)
To me it sounds like you have a sound driver problem with F1 2k.
(just a guess of course)  Is your sound card using the same IRQ as the
V5?  Which sound card are you using?  Maybe try disabling sound in
F12k, and see if you can get it to run?
Just some thoughts.

>Do you frankly believe F1 2000 is a good representation of F1 ??

Me?  Yes and no.  The physics seems reasonable, though I do think somewhat
relaxed (see a previous thread where inertia was discussed and was considered
too high in the sim).  I do have probs with the AI and framerate...

So many think it is pretty bad.  But I don't have a beef with it.  Do remember
that the in-car views you see in F1 races are placed quite a bit above driver
eye level (as was pointed out by the announcer at the 'ring).

Of the races I've seen this year (well, all), I noticed a key missing curb at
Barcelona, the last one (very important) at Imola. Every other sim shows a
steep downhill at *** at Monaco, except F12K (but I couldn't tell well
enough from the TV coverage as to who is correct).  The tracks generally do
appear too narrow, but I can't say for sure.  But overall, I think they give a
good feel for the courses.  I have more of a problem with how the AI drives
them.

I would never have questioned this.  I would have expected F1 tires to heat up
after a lap, given how hard they are driven. Do you know for a fact that they
aren't after two?

I think you are not giving yourself enough credit as I think you do know sims.
But do you know real F1 enough to say what it should be?  I don't.

Do I think F12K perfect?  Clearly no.  But I do think it is the best right now
for modern F1.  And enjoyable (many warts, and rushed nature, aside).

Might ?? are you serious Greg or ?

It's mine, yes
No.. but i'm proud of it and I do bring my contribution to the "sim" community

ohh I presume the AI out of the box in F1 2000 " might" be on par with older
sims
like GP2, ICR2 ? Since tyre wear/temperature and how it's implemented in F1
2000 are "modeled", does it qualify to be   "most likely closer to the real
thing" ??

Just curious

What qualifies YOU to***on anybody stating his opinion about this
mediocre game called F1 2000!

It's bad, it's really bad, so there...

Yeah, I responded to a flame by "fanboy" Greg that wasn't very intelligent either.
Didn't you say, it doesn't matter if the tracks are missing 0.5 meters in width?
To me that's a very silly statement, as there is a lot more missing in F12k.

I stated the points why I don't like F1 2000 before. Of course, I didn't call
anybody
an idiot or troll for stating his opinion about F12k, Greg did.

I didn't call anyone a troll or an idiot in the post you replied to.

I won't even speculate at what that makes you.

Hey anybody can put up a website and claim like they know
what they are talking about. I just happen to do it without having
the website :-)

You must not know much about modern F1 then.

Great.

No, I don't recall ever having said that, but even if I did, your logic in
your 2nd sentence escapes me!
