Can you run F1-2000 with the Voodoo 2 card?  A friend of mine would like
to know since he has a Intel 740 and it locks up most of the time if he
plays various games.   He would like to run  F1-2000  with his Voodoo2
if that is possibile.  Thanks.

Yes. With a P2-450 he should get 15 fps in quickraces and

You can. Of course, with the slow speed and poor look of the graphics,
you might still THINK it's running in software! ;-)

Holy cow. When I wrote how bad your framerate report was, I only saw
the 20 fps comment, didn't realize that was in testing, it was 15 in
racing. Fif***? FIF***??? What is this, 1995?

Nope 2000 at 800x600 with awesome graphics against 22
opponants and the mirrors on. F-15 Strike Eagle 3 was locked
at 15 fps and the framerate was fine. Also I believe cartoons
are locked at 15 fps. 15 isn't bad, lower would be.

What does the year have to do with it? So what if machines are more
powerful now? You can always write software that keeps track of more
details and shows more things. Should all games stop at the level of detail
they were at in 1995?

Now this is not to say that some programs aren't piggish -err, try Windows
for one :)- and/or don't use poor algorithms. The MAC OS, I beleive, has to
go through something like 8x more instructions per task switch than with
the Amiga OS, for example.

Maybe this is horribly programmed then again maybe it is well programmed
but simply handling more than you think.

Sorry. Fif*** fps in a 3d accelerated racing sim is pathetic. Period.

I haven't played racing games with such a piss-poor frame-rate since
pre-3d-accelerator days.

Hmmm, with a speed of 300 Kph and a framerate of 15 fps your
screen is updated after every 5.5 meters....A bit too much IMO...

15 frames /s is the minimum for a cars sim.
Under, it's not playable any more.
20 / 25 is quite good and and i can be at top
to 58 in qualifs.
But an average of 30 in races

25 is the absolute minimum tolerable frame rate, though still
annoyingly slow. With current graphics technolgy there's no excuse for
any sim to be slower than 30-40 fps.

They excuse may be detail. It's actually quite nice to see it run
quite ok at this time (~25fps) and see it become better in a year or
so with better graphics cards, so you can turn on more detail.
But well, probably GP3 or another F1 game may have superseded F12K
already. Let's hope so :)

That may be the escuse they give, but I'm not buying it. The game just
doesn't look that good. It's a poorly done graphics engine, plain and
simple.
