GPL/Zone Alarm

I've seen posts like this before but never paid any attention to them
because at the time I wasn't using ZA.  Now that I am,  If I join a GPL
server through WV my computer freezes.  Do I set GPL.exe through ZA to
"allow connect" and "allow server" to have GPL work with ZA running?  or do
I have to allow the specific IP addresses of the servers?

I think the 'freeze' is GPL hiding the ZA screen asking you if you want to
allow access for GPL to the internet...  If you 'allow connect' and 'allow
server', it may work.

It is basically what Eldred states, Michael.. I use ZAP instead
of ZA and you can pre-set the programs, its paths etc to let it
pass thru ZAP but I do not know how to do it for ZA.. sorry
Good Luck -Thom_j.

Set it to allow connect & allow server & give it a shot.  Be advised you
may likely have to turn the security setting on the internet side down
to low as well.  Good luck.

If the game allows it you just press alt+tab and you will see ZA
asking if you want to allow x program to connect to the ineternet.
Select yes and then it will run fine with ZA. Personally I disable ZA
while playing online games because ZA does take up some resources.

Yes I do that when I can but I cant do this in GPL nor
in N4 as I run N4 in OpenGL mode.. It wont alt-tab in
this mode in N4.. This why I like ZAP over ZA.. :)

Yep, causes too many problems for me with online games. I always
disable it too.

Even doing everything for GPL and VROC, I was never able to get
ZoneAlarm (the free version) to work with GPL when connecting to
online races. I removed it and now use hardware firewall protection.

Hi Michael!

I was also unable to use GPL with Zone Alarm.  If you find a solution,
please tell us!

Because of that I am now using Tiny Personal Firewall.  It is also
free and also put your computer in stealth mode.  And yes, it works
with GPL.

If you absolutely want to keep ZA, you could just disable it when you
play GPL online and activate TPF just for that purpose.

I heard somewhere that if you run GPL in a window the zone alarm alert will
pop up when you try multiplayer and then you can tell it to allow
connections with this program.  That's just a vague memory but it's worth a
try.

No need.

Let GPL launch, hit ctrl, alt, del and close GPL. The dialogue box will then
be visible.
