Sidewinder wheel (non ff) with Nascar 3, no go...

by John Poutr » Sun, 09 Jan 2000 04:00:00

I have a friend and a nephew who both have the Non FF sidewinder wheel.
Both said that with N3, it does not work at all.  I know with my nephew,
Monster Truck Madness works great, so the wheel works.  I was going to visit
this weekend but I was wondering if there is a solution for this that I
should be looking at.  I believe that the wheels are USB.

Someone suggested that I should use Directx 7a and get the beta patch.  I am
skeptical because I have heard Directx 7 horror stories on this board.  I
also would imagine that this combo should be able to work before directx7,
by combo I mean the wheel and nascar3.

Any hints on other solutions before I do this?  Thanks.

Dear john.sorry if you get this message twice.
I had same problem.I was using win 98 (original that installs NO dx
drivers) with DX6.1. N3  GPL  Viper Racing and SCGT and everything else
worked with my MS PP USB Wheel.
I upgraded to win 98 Second edition which installed DX6.1a (notice
the 'a' )by default.  None of the above games worked with my wheel and
N3 was prone to crashes.  I could not downgrade the DX version and I
didn't try DX7 (which I have read today in this forum will not work
with N3 and the MS PP USB wheel). DX7.0a might work . my solution was
to re-install 'old' Win 98 and then install DX6.1. everything works.

Hi John,

I own the same wheel and tried it under DX7 with several games with the same
results you have encountered in N3.... all problems where solved after
installing DX7a....

Hope this helpes you out!

Frank
