MS Sidewinder Wheel (non-ff) Spring Prob

MS Sidewinder Wheel (non-ff) Spring Prob

by John Boo » Sat, 23 Jun 2001 17:13:14

Hi all,

A while ago someone here posted how they fixed thier wheel...  Anyway, I've
had my wheel for 8 months, think it is the best non-ff wheel available
(without going to the lovely hyperstim) but the brake pedal resisting spring
has broken (the spring that provides tension in the pedal when you press it)
and I rang MS Australia to see what they can do.  They don't support MS
hardware in downunderland (warning to all aussies!) and couldn't help.  I
suggested calling the states direct and they didn't have a clue (AUS that
is.)  So, who should I call in the USA to get a spring sent out, or is there
some other way to fix this.  (Warranty be damned.)  This is important as
Eldred is getting too close!!!

Try looking in the yellow pages for spare parts companies that sell springs.
I've seen the springs in my pedal unit (same as yours) and it's a common
type. Just take your springs with you when you go. The only thing you might
have to do yourself, once you get the spring, is bend one end of it around
into a loop so that you've got somewhere to put the***into.

MS Sidewinder Wheel (non-ff) Spring Prob

I posted about this exact same problem a month or so back. One of the two
"arms" of my pedal return spring sheared off, the pedal would still return
using the remaining "arm" but with half the force and it was inconsistent. I
rang MS in the UK and explained what had happened and they sent me a brand
new wheel and pedals within the week. I was astonished but very happy :0)

The thread was called "hooray for microsoft?" and started 10 May 2001, try
searching for it here....

Sorry I can't post a direct link because the url is like 2 paragraphs long,
but you should find it dead easy.

Hope that helps

Hi Jim, thanks for the post.

Your's was the post I was refering to. Problem in Australia is that MS don't
support thier hardware, only software, so I can return it to be repaired
from the store I purchased it from (they won't do a replacement the
bastards) and now I've gone and broken the warranty validity by taking it
apart.

Gonna check up on a few spring manufactureres and also look into making
special brackets for the pedals using soft metal. For the time being I've
swapped the springs over, as I don't really need the tension on hte
accelerator as much as I need the brakes.
