Does the MS FF Wheel (USB) work OK in Windows 2000? I've seen posts
saying it does and others saying it doesn't. Is it a drivers version
issue?

I've installed the profiler for the MSPP wheel under Win2000, I think it's
the same software as the USB FF wheel. Works ok here.

When I first installed Win2K, the wheel wouldn't work at all. MS Support
says Win2k drivers will not be developed.

Then after a month of moaning about it, I fired up GPL and found that
the wheel works, though it seems not a sensitive, and with a bigger dead
zone than I recall. And the profiler doesn't work, so you can't assign
the buttons. But you can use it... kind of.

scribbled:

USB version? It doesn't work with any games? That's odd. My MS FF
(USB) seems to work with everything in Win2k...

It's kind of weird.  It works for some, doesn't for others.  The biggest
issue seems to be games that read the pedals correctly.

There is a recent 4.5 update to the SideWinder core driver for the USB FFW.
If you use Windows Update, and you have the wheel installed, it will present
the update to you.

I'm running Windows XP RC1, and I installed the 4.0 software.  It gave it's
usual compatibility complaint, but I installed it anyway.

It _seems_ to be working ok!

Interestingly, Windows XP changed the core driver to version 4.5 all by
itself!

Maybe there is hope afterall :)

I still say MS needs to re-vamp it's entire SideWinder package as it's
become horribly fragmented.  There are several _different_ versions of 4.0
depending on what controller you use.

You have version 4.0.

They have version 3.02.  There is NO way whatsovever to get 3.02 installed
under Win2K.

I'm pretty sure the MSFF USB wheel uses version 4, the same as the MSPP USB
does. The original poster was asking about the USB wheel.

I know that the software version 3.02 won't work in Win2k because I have
that with my gameport version.

I've got the USB wheel and v.4.0 and it's working beautifully. Even with
the version 4 Microsoft won't guarantee compatibility with Win2K (IIRC)
but it works fine for me. Didn't work in Win98, though, which was why I
got the Win2K in the first place...

What do you mean it won't work in Win98? I have a MS FF (USB) wheel
running fine under Win98.
