Radeon 8500(128 MB) or GF4 Ti 4600\4400. Costwise I'd go with the
Radeon, but would I be better off with the GF card in the long run. I'd
even condiser a GF3 if I could find one in Winnipeg.

system specs:

P3 600
128 MB RAM
NVIDIA TNT2 Vanta card with 8MB
how do I find what type of motherboard I've got?

Neither unless you plan on upgrading that cpu anytime soon.  Any card of that caliber is wasted on
that system.  I have a PIII 600 as well, and those cards are way overkill.  I bought a GF2 MX400
which is much better matched to the capabilities of the rest of your system.

Thanks Biz, but what about a GF3 if I can find one?

One other Q. What sort of fps are you getting and with what kind of
detail levels?
I'm curious for games like N4, GPL, F12001 (I still have cs2k myself but
using this for reference) any first person action games? (cant get away
from Jedi Knight 2 for anything at the moment).

Your cpu wouldn't do a GF4 justice.  I will warn you away from the MX
versions of the GF4.  It's really just an overclocked GF2 so it can't even
run all the DX8 features like the GF3 & (other)4's can.
A GF 3 ti 200 or 500 would be a good fit with your cpu....
Good luck.

Depends on what yer playing.  If you play mostly older games (GPL, NH, N4,
SCGT, Viper, etc.), then the best thing is to get the most GF2 you can
afford (the hottest GF2 was the Ultra, now well under $100).  If you play
the latest games (basically, the ones that come with DX8.1 on the install
disc), then go for any GF3 but the totally lame MX series.  The Raedon is a
good general-purpose choice, but not skewed as much toward *** as the
nVidia offerings.

OT...
You wouldn't be related to Denis in Jasper, would you?

Possible. My dad is just 1 of 15 kids (no twins either OUCH!) I'll check
it out

Small (virtual) world if you are... Denis is a friend of mine and I guess
the last name could be common in certain areas but he's the only one in the
phonebook here. Moved here from Rainy River, I believe.

I would wait for the GeForce4 Ti4200 which will be available at the end of
April, beginning of May. That's what I am going to replace my Voodoo 5500
AGP with. It will be available for ~$150 with 64MB.

Another good choice would be a GeForce3 Gainward Ti200 Golden Sample 64MB
(~$130).

I myself am considering both of these cards. I just recently upgraded mt

PC133). I am happy with the speed increase but the Voodoo is still holding
me back IMO especially graphically in Nascar 2002.

With your current processor and setup, I don't think you will see a big
difference between a GF3 and GF4 but if you plan on upgrading processor in
the future you might go GF4 Ti4200 since it is around$30-$50 more.

If you mean Rainy River Ontario, then there is a BIG chance. My dad
comes from Pinewood, just down the road from Rainy River.

Wow, if you ever see Darcy ask him if he remembers the guy at the Jasper
Heritage Folkfest who got him to get some info on the bands. I was working
for a local paper at the time and he wanted to get "backstage" so I gave him
my press pass and told him he had to earn it by getting me some info. Say hi
for me.

I was checking a local (and reputable) computer pasrts store website and
they have a MSI GE3 ti200 with 128MB DDR for $285 Cdn. They also have a
Hurcules GF3 Ti200 with 64 MB for $305. Obviously the MSI card is a
better deal, but is is a good card. SHould I keep looking?

dammit! One thing I forgot to ask is with my system, would I get smooth
framerates on N4, GPL, NHL 2001, etc. with all settings maxed, or would
I still have to tone down some of the fine details?
