Total guess, but does your MB have an on-board sound card? Try disabling it
in the BIOS and, if that fails, find a jumper on the MB itself to disable
it. I know my PC had problems until I disabled the built-in sound (I think
it's a Yamaha chip of some kind). BIOS didn't work, I had to use the jumper.
Modern sound devices often emulate one of these for some retro
compatability.
So check your sound card documentation to check.

Most bioses have an option for USB keyb or mouse, so I'm sure if you
enable that it will disable the corresponding ps/2 port.
MPU-401 is a midi sound device of some description, this has come
standard with sound cards since the old sb16. Do you have a modem
attached? Often these will install sound drivers and such (although
not midi sound stuff normally). Often listed as "serial wave device"
or similar. But it certainly does sound like an onboard sound conflict
anyway. Check the bios thoroughly (maybe flash it to a newer version)
as there may be a conflict in that it thinks you have onboard sound,
but you don't.

Now I have and Audigy Platinum Ext with every conceivable sound connection
possible but still haven't hooked up a even a keyboard (synth) to it or even
my guitar. Even got some soft synth, mixer and recording stuff included but
still haven't had the time to play with it. Can't see it helping my lap
times. ;O)
