Can anyone here help, please - I bought a Geforce 2 MX 400 (cheap 'n
cheerful) off a friend, I know it works, but when I install to my system I
get a corrupted screen, no matter what I try (Windows is working, it's there
behind the 'corruption'). My current vid card is a Riva TNT2 Model 64
(actually a Creative card), with the Nvidia 2311 drivers.

System: ATHLON (might be the prob) 750
Mobo: FIC SD11 (Slot A)
Win ME

On advice, I've tried using NVCleaner, NVMax to no avail. If I remove the
2311 drivers, the card works, but as soon as I put any drivers into it, this
is what I get.

Would love to hear suggestions, read links, etc....

Make sure you have the latest drivers and firmware for your mobo,
particularly if you have the via chipset.

Did you set the desktop to 640x480 before you put the new card in? I'm
guessing it's a refresh rate problem. Maybe if you set the desktop and
refresh to default settings, it'll come up ok with the new card. Only thing
i can think of right now.

Hmm, no, I must admit, I didn't do that...refresh rate was always set as
'optimal', but the res wouldn't have been 640, of course....that makes a
difference?
 Thanks...

Hmm, the screen is sort of blank, with a couple of vertical lines down it.
Windows is there, like I say....if I move the mouse, one of the lines moves,
or if I use the windows key, etc, everything's there, I just can't see it.

It's not a Hercules GF2 is it?  They have a weird problem with PCI IDs -
usually the answer is to use Hercules drivers only - not nVidia reference
drivers.  The problem only occurs on some motherboards - most notably the
Epox 8KHA+.  I'm not sure if Hercules have released a video BIOS which
solves the problem.

Thanks, a new lead!

Well, that WAS it, but now it isn't - after 5 mins the compy siezed up and
wouldn't reboot, giving an 8-beep warning. That, on my compy means:

 8
Memory error on the video adapter.
Replace the video card or the memory on the video card.

So I guess there's nothing I can do...or?
