OT: Wierd GeForce Problem

by Andy Garto » Wed, 02 Aug 2000 04:00:00

Just on the off chance that somebody may have experienced this,
and knows the answer, here is a problem I have been having for
a while:

When I turn on my machine, the first time it boots up the Win98
cursor is corrupted slightly, and the machine hangs completely
as soon as I launch a D3D application (i.e. GPL/GP3 etc).

If I do a soft reboot before launching a sim, the cursor is OK,
and everything works fine.

PC is Athlon 700, GeForce 256 Gfx (5.22 drivers). I'm sure
it must be GeForce related...?

Thanks,
Andy

***, now you've got me ;-)

Not overclocked, that's for sure. The system is completely
standard as sold by a UK company (Evesham Micros, who
have no clue). No MB manual, so I suppose I should grovel
inside the case...

GeForce is a Guillemot 3D Prophet "original" model (er, SDR?).

hehe :-)

was it included in the original computer or did you swap it for the
original graphics card? did you encounter the problem out of the box?
might be ram-problem or corrupted windows installation (corrupted or
wrong dlls - had that already ...). try to reinstall directx 7a and new
geforce-drivers (5.32 or 5.33, get them from www.reactorcritical.com)
and also check the cooling fan on the heatsink of the geforce in
operation - might be that it is broken ...
