GP3 - Can you hear the AI cars?

I was just wondering if anyone else actually hears the AI cars while driving
on the track.  I only hear them when they pass the pits while i'm watching
the qualify screen from the***pit.  If i'm out racing or practising I only
hear my car.  Is this normal?  I have a P3/450, 128 Ram, V3/3000, SB16 PnP
sound card, and Microsoft USB Digital Sound System 80 (which should bypass
the SB16.)

You can't here other cars from yours.

Whilst a lot of peopl think this is totally pants and lazy programming, when
was the last time you heard another car from an in-car camera on TV coverage
in F1 or CART or something?

Maybe it's lazy programming, maybe it's not.  Doesn't bother me. In some
sims I can't here my own engine, it gets drowned out by the other..!!

I've had the opportunity to ask a few drivers about this in the past. These
men and women, racing everything from AMA flat track motorcycles to vintage
sports and formula cars, IRL and CART drivers, sprint and midget drivers and
Winston West stock car drivers, to a person, say thay can easily hear their
opponents around them. They rely on this as much as they do their mirrors to
keep track of the field around them. Many mentioned that the start is the
worst, that often one must drive by the tach because you cannot hear your
own engine until the field thins out.

And yet Damon Hill said he has only once heard another engine (Gerhard's
when it went bust at Hockenheim).
