GP3..on the canned thing mainly..

Hi,

'review' #62578....duhhh...

First of all i'm baffled there's no split axis support...did no one
ever think about this at crammond's place?
Force feedback works, but it's to lagged to really be of help.
Second, as mentioned by others the 'slow mo' thing is still there.
This is why i'm kinda sad shubi is gonna focus his attention to GP3
hotlapping and GPL will go on the back burner.
Hotlapping is great...but the 'slow mo option' which will be used by
all the top drivers...well...wrecks the whole idea behind
hotlapping:((

Those are my 2 main gripes with GP3...the
rest...gfx..sounds...interface...AI...are ok except for some glitches
like floating cars and no other car sounds..

A remark about they gfx, i *dearly* miss the wide field of view GPL
has...
In GP3 races i seem to have much less awereness of if another car is
driving side my side with me, with the result that i bump in to cars
when turning into a corner  quite a lot because i simply didn't know
someone was one my inside or outside...
There is an option in the gfx department called 'virtual
***pit'...seems to be always on...this has a variable 'angle of
view'...
It's default at 100%..and yo can up it to 145%...

However, to me it seems as if all this does is 'zoom out'...
so you are further away from the wheel, but the actual angle of view
seems to remain the same...but because you're 'zoomed out' you see a
car beside you 'earlier'.
There is still a quite a big  'dead zone' though between the
overtaking car disappearing from your mirror and seeing it's front
wheel coming into normal view.

And now for the thing we all love in driving sims....the car and it's
behaviour.
Mixed feeling about that.
I've read all the threads about canned or no canned.
I've driven a lot since friday, with *all* driving aids off and no
steering help.
I've tried many rear wing settings in both wet and dry to try this
out.

The general feeling is the car really sticks to the road big time, and
i mean big time....to much?... i don't know...
The feel of drive is 'flat'...due to the circuits which all seem to
have tarmac from heaven.
Yes..the *big* humps are there like in brazil...but no small bumps.
There is some...uhhmmm...visual thing suggesting you drive over small
bumps...but as far as i can tell that's it....a visual suggestion and
not the actaul visual results from the car humping...
Very unlike GPL where there are loooaaads of small humps.
So as for humpyness it's very...game like...not sim like as in GPL..

canned or no canned spins?...very hard to say
There is no limit of the degrees of spin.
You can spin 360 degrees for as long as you want both in the wet and
dry.
So that's not canned...
But....(ain't there always a but)
This is hard to put into words, but the feeling you get once the back
starts sliding is that it's not really as it should be...
Maybe it's best to do it with an example.
When you watch F1, some people drive away from a pitstop with the back
sliding big time..what you see and what you  hear is high revs, car
slides fast, revs get reduced by the driver, the sliding of the car
'slowly' reduces untill the car is 'under controle' again....
I know there's more happening but basically that's it...
This 'controlled' sliding of the back should be possible in 'slower'
corners aswell..

Now in GP3, you can catch the back....
But with all my trying that's all i've been able to do...
Catch a backslide....but sofar i've not been able to actually do
anything which could be considered as controlling the slide itself...

People might argue that 'you've never driven a F1 car' which sadly is
the truth:)
I have driven some very fast cars...friend of mine has an 'old' lotus
esprit which i've driven a few times...
And really....a car is a car..ok, an F1 car has wings...but at lower
speeds these are of much less influence then at higher speeds..
Anyways, this backslide behaviour in GPL feels as the real
thing...allthough it has been said the cars in GPL are to slippery
overall which might well be true, it changes nothing about the fact
that slide behaviour and the means for a driver to correct it with
throttle and steering feels absolutly like a real car.
And it's that which i really miss in GP3...
so as far as i can tell it's not canned...but more as if something
dynamic is missing...

Something which also might influence this is it's extremly hard to
tell if you're in understeer oversteer...due to the gfx...
There are moments when it's very obvious you're in oversteer...but a
lot of times i hear the screeching wheels..so i know something is
slipping...but the gfx don't give me any feedback at all on if it's
oversteer or understeer...and if it's the back sliding i just notice
it to late to do anything about it anymore...
Very odd, wonder if i'm the only one who feels like that.
I don't have this problem at all in GPL, the visual feedback is always
more then  enough to tell understeer from oversteer.

Anyways, GP3...i won't cancel my pre order...i'll have some fun with
it but it's not really what i hoped.
What i hoped for was an F1 sim with the dynamics, and matching the
physics, of GPL...

cheers,
Willem

It's not as much an option as it is a consequence. In GP2/GP3 you set a
certain framerate and the game will draw that number of frames, whether it
takes longer than a second or not. This means, if you turn the framerate and
graphics options up past what your PC can handle it takes your PC anything
from 1.5 to 3 seconds to draw the required number of frames and the game
effectively runs in slow motion.

I thought GP2 did work with split axis. My TSW2 wheel comes with
instructions on how to set it up. And it works, I think, I only tried it a
couple of times. Since I have wired my TSW2 pedals to my Logi wheel, but I
can't get the pedals to work.

Is there a Logi profile for GP2/GP3?
