Which racing game has the best graphics other than Need for Speed 5?  I know
many of you probably don't consider NFS5 a racing sim, but humour me if you
can :)

Well, this is just my opinion of course, but the following come to mind, in no
particular order ----

F1 Racing Championship
Colin MacRae Rally 2
Rally Masters
Mobil 1 Rally Championship
Superbike 2001

I don't know why, but those Rally games seem to consistently put out good
graphics.  But the best graphics overall  probably belong to Superbike.  I
personally think that any of these beat NFS5 in the graphics department.  Of
course, results may vary based upon the graphics card.  I'm using a Voodoo 5.

It really is a subjective question.  Depending on the video card
especially.  For instance,  SCGT looks very blurry when viewed with FSAA.
But crank up the smoothing with 4xfsaa and it looks quite different.
Nascar Heat has simply GORGEOUS car graphics that don't tax lesser systems.
The night racing in nascar 4 is great.
F1rc also looks great.   I think the reason Rallye titles look so good is
the limited amount of width...they don't have to model a circut that could
be a half mile wide...but just a narrow snake like canyon.

No doubt about it. F1RC. RC2000 previously had the title.

Not wanting to start another argument here, but IMO the PS2 game GT3
has the best graphics of any driving game. There are individual pieces
other games have done better here and there, but as a polished package
no one else has put together such a fine looking game.

Well, I think the dashboard graphics in GPL, F1CS, and RC2000 are better

Dave,

Another reason the rally sims look great is that they only have to draw one
car at a time (usually) and calculate the AI for one car at a time.  Mobil 1
fell apart, for instance, when you ran it in the wheel-to-wheel mode.

F1RC no competition, or NFS5 is still looking very good, RC2K is also good,
GPL starts to date a little bit, i  think that N4 is okay in terms of FPS
but the gfx could be better....

Are you kidding, Frank? The cars don't even remotely resemble real
ones(look at the front ends- they look retarded), and the***pit
looks like a 5 year old drew it. Other than the car shapes, it's no
big deal, but you think they'd at least be able to make them look
close- but missed by a mile.

CMR2 would probably be my pick, with MBTR a close second. They're both
a lot more fun than N4, too<g>.

What the heck are you talking about?

Well if you want to nitpick about the "cars", it's ok but don't exclude the
fact that N4 is a beautiful sim graphic-wise.

CMR 2 would get my vote for best car representation as well. However,
the overall graphics impression in terms of realism/immersion would go
to N4 in my opinion as well.
