Best graphics card (DOS and DirectX)?

by -Keating,R. » Tue, 14 May 1996 04:00:00

I need to purchase a PCI graphics card.  Unfortunately I can't wait
for the dust to settle on the future graphics accelerator card standards.

What is the best card to run the current version of ICR II and NASCAR?
What is the best card to run the Windows 95 version of ICR II
(with fast DirectX support)?

I have an idea of some fast DOS cards, but this DirectX stuff is all
new to me.

Thanks,

For a complete rundown of the best sim hardware, have a look at the
hardware section of Sim Racing News on the WWW at the address below in
my .sig. As for your questions, the mag will cover them fully but in
short...

1) Hercules Stingray (51202V) or Diamond Stealth 64 2Mb DRAM (2201XL
with Ark2000 chipset)

2) Probably the Rendition Corp's PCI version of the 3D Blaster using the
Verite chip. It runs 65k colours at 640x480 and is reportedly SERIOUSLY
quick.... :)

Cheers!
John
