I've found two things are essential. First, run the V2KFIX over
the ICR2 exectuable. This allows the game to run properly if it
doesn't sense the V1000 hardware. Second, a tip I've found works
well, is running ICR2 once with it's old Speedy3D driver, quiting,
then running with the later Speedy3D driver. This fixes the mirror
glitch.
Caveats: This is from memory (fixed it six months ago), I run Win95
and a Hercules Thriller 8meg AGP (although the Diamond Stealth S220
with the V2100 should be similar).
When I run ICR2, I boot directly to DOS (F8, command line only).
The old Speedy3D is named "SPD3D.UC1", the newer "SPD3D.UC2". Then I
run this batch file to run ICR2 (remember to quit ICR2 the first time
it runs, change directories as appropriate):
F:
cd F:\ICR3D
REM
del spd3d.uc
copy spd3d.uc1 spd3d.uc
REM
set SPEEDY3D=F:\ICR3D
set SPEEDY3D_DMA=1
RR
if exist INDYCAR.DMP del INDYCAR.DMP
echo.
echo INDYFAST.BAT: Redirecting output to file 'INDYCAR.DMP'
echo.
INDYCAR > INDYCAR.DMP
mode co80
echo.
echo INDYFAST.BAT: Displaying file 'INDYCAR.DMP':
echo.
type INDYCAR.DMP
echo.
REM
del spd3d.uc
copy spd3d.uc2 spd3d.uc
REM
set SPEEDY3D=F:\ICR3D
set SPEEDY3D_DMA=1
RR
if exist INDYCAR.DMP del INDYCAR.DMP
echo.
echo INDYFAST.BAT: Redirecting output to file 'INDYCAR.DMP'
echo.
INDYCAR > INDYCAR.DMP
mode co80
echo.
echo INDYFAST.BAT: Displaying file 'INDYCAR.DMP':
echo.
type INDYCAR.DMP
echo.

Finally, I've heard the new bargain-bin "All American Sports"
release of CART Racing only have Win95 executables, not DOS Rendition
(even though it still says "rendition Ready" on the box, so beware.

Oh, yeah, that too. <blush> :)

Not a problem, you don't know until you ask. :)
It sounds like you've got the earlier version of ICR2 that didn't
have Rendition executables. This was released in late '95, before the
Rendition version was available (late '96). You have two choices...
1) Purchase CART Racing which has the Rendition executables and other
files. Make sure its not the "All American Sports" release I
mentioned. If you can purchase somewhere that allows returns
(Electronics Boutique comes to mind), that would be the safest, just
in case. Shouldn't be over $20 nowadays. This should also include
Steve Smith's book. This is really the best course if you can find
it.
2) Build your own version with stuff found on the net. Not easy, not
complete, but cheap and gives you a taste of Rendition. You need the
Rendition executable (look for that Cyrix patch I mentioned), the
Speedy3D API file (available with NASCAR2, if you've got that), and a
batch file to start it all, like I already posted.
For more details, you might want to search old RAS posts around
late '96, as folks who bought the CL Rendition 3D Blaster *didn't*
have it included in their software bundle (unlike all the other V1000
cards), unfortunate since ICR2 was really THE showcase game for the
Rendition technology.
What you will *not* get with this approach is the five Rendition
enhanced tracks. Icing on the cake, but not that big a deal. With
the Rendition executable, all of your tracks will have Rendition 3D,
they just won't be visually enhanced/optimized like the five included
in the CART package.
Good luck.
