As mentioned elsewhere in this thread, you can use the Cyrix
patch to get some of the features of the regular Rendition version,
less the enhanced tracks.  FWIW, Papyrus will be re-releasing
ICR2 under a new title called "CART Racing", and this will have
the full-optimized version of ICR2-3D.  Due in October.

Help: Have ICR2, need rendition version

HI,

I've just finally built a new computer after about 10 months out.  I tried to
get an Intense 3D but they are just not available in the UK. I tried to get one
from the States but they would not sell me one(!!!!) Not at the 99 usd price,
not at full retail.  So I tracked down a 3D blaster instaead. cheap these days
too!

But that doesn't come with ICR2rend (or whatever).  Is there a patch, or has
someone upgraded their card and want to get rid of their 3D icr?  If the only
difference is the .exe I have the rest of the game.  Do I need new tracks?

Anyway, to report on the performance of the card:

SuperMicro AP5T motherboardwith 200MMX. I had a Mystique in there first and
that was quick in N2 .  With all details on except clouds, and road/grass
texture on automatic I was getting up over 25 fps (in win95).  the track
texture would go off past the pits and some bits of scenery. Now with the
rendition card everything is on, including clouds and it stays on. all the
time. I have it set to turn off the track texture at 27 fps and it has done it
once.

Shame the card is slower than the mystique in GP2 though!

Anyway, someone please help with the icrrend.

There is a file in Sierra's FTP site (ftp.sierra.com)Under the
pub/patches/pc/ directory called icr2rend.exe.Simply put that in your ICR2
Directory and extract it writing over your old Indycar.exe file.Only thing
your gonna miss though is the 16 bit tracks.Such a shame Creative labs
didnt include Indy car Rendition in thier 3D blaster.Hope that helps.

Hi MoZ...

No, two different games.  "CART Racing" is by Papyrus/Sierra, and is to
be a 3D enhanced version of their ICR2 (Indycar Racing II) sim.  The
"other" future CART sim, "CART: Precision Racing" is by a different
company, Microsoft, and will use totally different coding approaches,
i.e., won't be "Rendition" board compatible (from what I've heard, that
is).  Hope this helps...

CART Precision Racing will be accelerated through Direct 3D.Therefore it
will be compatible with Rendition and others.

excuse me if I'm re-asking a question here but can I download a 3d patch
for my existing copy of ICR2 or are they going to be scummy and make me
buy a whole new version?

Quentin

PS I would appreciate replies being send to me ( or in addition to being
posted here) as I do not get a lot of time to read this group.  Thank
you.
