GPL 1.1 not fit for hotlapping?

by Leo Landma » Mon, 12 Jul 1999 04:00:00

After installing the patch, my fps in the game went up from the usual 35-36
to a constant 37-38 fps. This reminded me of the timing trouble some of us
had with F1RS, so I took out the old stop-watch and checked.
V 1.0 was always accurate in this respect, but sure enough GPL 1.1 was way
off. Measured with the stop-watch, replays of Silverstone laps lasted 1.5
secs shorter than reported by the game.
Please note this was done offline, and with repeated measurements to be sure
I wasn't inaccurate with the stop-watch.

So it looks like GPL 1.1 is running a little faster than it should, on my
system anyway. This makes it harder to do a decent lap, as you have less
time to do it in (and it's hard enough as it was).
Worse perhaps is the possibility that V1.1 might run too slow on other
systems. That would be a big advantage for hotlapping, as we've seen with
GP2 and F1RS.
So I hope this timing problem is cleared up, otherwise V1.1 would turn
hotlapping charts into a joke.

Bye,
Leo

Hi all,

With me it is also!!!
I play a replay of zandvoort of me (1:26:13) and check it with a stop-watch,
And my stop-watch said 1:23:65!!!!!

I run GPL at a PenII 450, 256 mhz, voodoo2, enz....

So that all means that I can run 1:24:... ?????

I'm running a Celeron 366 at 75 MHz bus speed = 412 MHz.

Meanwhile... I've discovered that ONline the frame counter shows the
normal 35-36 fps. Offline it's always 37-38.

No problem, Kees. Just slow down your processor and you'll be doing
1:23's with some practice. It's GP2 and F1RS all over again. Papy seem
to have left the real time principle for lap timing. Very stupid. I hope
they've just made a mistake though, and will correct it.

Yeah, I know a good one: GPL 1.0.0.0 <g>
I'm still confident Papy will see the error of their ways and correct
it.
