I'm running DX6 with Creative V2. Works fine. The DX6 was installed with MGPRS2 and
the V2 drivers were got from the Creative site. I got the V2 drivers from the
creative site, courtesy Michael Carver:
"Here is the URL for the reference drivers I am using:
http://www.racesimcentral.net/
While the above may say "95", the screen before it
<http://www.racesimcentral.net/; says
Win95/98."

As has been stated earlier, it's not DX6 or the Creative drivers, it's the
beta 3Dfx DX6 drivers that are the problem.

FWIW, this is becomming a common story with the Voodoo-2.

Monster Truck Madness II also crashes in the menu system...

Make sure you have 'tripple buffering' OFF in the 3DFX set-up menu, it worked
for me!  I also use Direct X6, no problem.

I've tried _everything_ to get the MII to work in MTM2.  No joy.  I've
tried the original drivers, the 203 update, 3 different format-up clean
installs, everything.

MTM2 will _not_ run under Win98 with the MII card.  The funny thing is,
it comes with the Monster II card!!!  How's that for irony :)

I'm going to try the 3dfx generic reference drivers next to see what
happens.

Yes it will.  It does for me without crashes and it looks great.  Win 98 &
Monster II.  Your problem is not with the card (unless it's defective) or
the OS. Look someplace else.

Not really, but I was having plenty of other problems with Windslows98
to warrant the effort :)

I eventually found the cure.  I quit installing 98, and went back to 95.
All my Voodoo-2 stuff now works great.

There are some _funky_ driver issues with Windows 98!

I have read so many accounts of the same exact problems I have in
various newsgroups, that I just can't believe it's a bad card...

Anyway, I solved my problem.  It was the last straw, and I went back to
Windows 95. Everything is fine again...

Thanks for the input, though :)

OH man don't even talk to me about win 98!! I'll take 95 anyday. When 98
came out it was time for a new hd for me anyway so I decided to start fresh.
I was all e***d since I got my brand spanking new 9.6gig hd, and with fat
32 I could slap it all into one big sucker. Ya that would be true but let's
just say I'm not going to even try 98 again until they release that service
pack. and whats with that "MultiMedia Update" geez... point is FAT 32 did
some really whanky things to my data and I don't trust it anymore that I
turst a serial killer... FAT table problems out the ying yang, data
corruption, not to mention the incompatibilities with some software and disk
tools (which can be REAL dangerous). Until they release the service pack,
and I hear good things from those poor people running 98, then I'll try
again. About the only thing you need 98 for is USB and I don't have any USB
devices so why bother? Even if I did have some USB stuff,  win 95b has USB
support. You made the right descision to go "back"(which is really forward)
to 95... win 98 was REALLY dissapointing... I'm sticking it out 'till NT 5
(or windows 2000 or whatever unoriginal name it will have by the time it
comes out)

Just a thought: I use Linux for all my productivity work (office stuff,
HTML/Web design, Java development) and have a win95 drive for games only
(mostly driving sims). Nothing else gets on the win95 drive: it's
exclusively for *** until we'll have native versions of Linux games.

Anyhow, the point being made is: Don't even try mixing apps, games
and those notorious MS DLL overwriters on the same system. It
just won't work. "Upgrade" to 98?? Me? Never! ;-)

Regards,

Uwe
