It's not DX6 that's the problem, it's the V2 DX6 drivers that are only beta
at the moment. Keep DX6 and return to the previous V2 drivers and you'll
find everything is OK. This is a well documented problem with the beta
drivers and Papy and 3Dfx are both aware of the problem.

Yep - I had the same problem...the following drivers work great
with DX6 installed..(run DXINFO)

Direct3D (DirectX) Display
 Card name      : Voodoo2 DirectX 5 Driver
 Driver         : 3DFXV2.drv
 Version        : 4.10.01.0158 "4.10.01.0158-2.17"  English
 Date and Size  : 06/11/98 11:47:38   39044 bytes
