minor annoyances within GPL.
Although the video drivers provided on the Voodoo5 CD (Version
4.12.01.0543, dated 5-16-2001) work with GPL out-of-the-box, the driving
screen has an annoying flicker on top and on the left side, when using
FSAA. I'm told that updated drivers would eliminate that. After
eradicating every vestige of Voodoo, 3Dfx, and Glide from my system
(Registry, Windows and Windows\System directories) beforehand, I tried
installing updated drivers -- namely Drivers 1.04.00, 1.03.00 and
1.04.01 beta, (all downloaded from www.3dfx.com). However, with each of
these drivers, my mouse locks up at the GPL opening screen.
To be specific, although I can click on the red and green buttons, it
_appears_ that they are being pressed, but nothing happens. However, if
I click on Best Laps, View a Replay, etc, I can get to those screens.
However, once there, I again cannot press either red or green.
I probably should have started this post with these questions:
1. Is it even worthwhile pursuing this further for GPL?. The main
reason I would like to update my video drivers is so that I can activate
"anti-aliasing" (AA) within the Graphics Quality settings in GPL. (I'm
told that the newer drivers would allow this).
2. I already have FSAA set to 2 for Glide within 3Dfx tools. Does that
mean that AA is already in effect within GPL, or not? Or does AA in GPL
only activate by clicking on it within GPL? In other words, do the
updated Voodoo 5 drivers make a significant difference for GPL?
I just want to optimize the GPL performance of my new vidcard. After
all, that's why I bought it.
Windows95 OSR2.
Any help with this, from Voodoo5 GPL'ers would be appreciated. (I would
appreciate NOT receiving responses saying that "You shoulda bought a
______ instead". )
Thanks. And sorry for the long post.
