Anyone can help with GPL and Voodoo5 in XP?

by colossus.usenet.co » Sun, 27 Jan 2002 13:04:46

Hi all,
I'm looking for help in getting GPL to run on WindowsXP with my Voodoo5 5500
video card.
I've tried several drivers, and the most that has happened is that the game
ran for awhile with the d3d rasterizer and the native XP V5 driver, but when
I try to run it after installing 3rd party "XP" drivers in order to get all
the card's features, the game just crashes my system.  I've tried manually
changing it to software mode (by editing the app.ini file), and then
changing to Glide or OpenGL (after installing the Open GL patch).  And I get
the same result.  Since this was a "backed up" installation of GPL, I tried
a fresh install, applying the rasterizer patches and the 1.2 patch and then
running the game, but again, I got the same issue.

So right now I can either try again, with fresh XP  and GPL installations
(which I'm doing now), get a newer video card (an expense that  I'd like to
avoid for now!), or roll back to Win98 - unless someone can suggest
something better.  Any info you can throw  my way will be greatly
appreciated!  Here are my specs:

Abit SA6R Mobo running a Raid0 array (2x20GB). VM  BIOS.

256MB of RAM
Adaptec SCSI adapter for the optical drives.
Voodoo5 5500 AGP with 1.15 BIOS (with its own IRQ).  Current drivers are
original 1.04.00 (win2000), with Hojer Hoe's (sp?) fix for XP.
Soundblaster Live! Value with latest XP drivers.
As I said, the fresh WinXP install.  Disk formatted in NTFS.
LWFF USB version.

Luis
