Analog gamepads for sims?

by Stephen Ferguso » Fri, 20 Nov 1998 04:00:00

Are there any gamepads for the PC similar in concept to the Playstation
Dual Analog?  I use a notebook and am looking for something more portable
to take on the road (non USB; I use a PCMCIA game port). I have seen the
Gravis Exterminator and the Microsoft Sidewinder on the web, but not in a
store.  These have a little analog stick, like the N64 or Playstation pads,
so perhaps that would be ok.  The Gravis even seems to have two analog
"flippers" under it (maybe configure for gas and brake?).  How would these
work with old DOS sims?

Why doesn't someone make something like the Sony controller, or like an old
RC controller?  I find the Dual Analog is the next best thing to a wheel -
the fine motor skills of the thumb tips are much more accurate than using a
big joystick, and the separate axes become natural very quickly.

Finally, has anyone in Canada ever come across a store selling the Ultra
Racer PC controller?  This is the little wheel and trigger handheld unit.
It might also fit my needs.

thanks
Stephen
