Speaking of this great tool, is there any way to make this work under D3D? I
mean, the touring car mirror was pretty cool... I'd like to use that
again...

Hi
IF you are getting 36 when you are running, and 20 on the grid. I wouldn't
have thought you are a million miles out. Depends on other cars on grid and
resolution. Its comparable to my amd k6-2 550 v3000 sb live 1024, 128 mb
Cheers Martin

I actually use 9 and the mirrors remain usable.  The old Voodoo2 and
Celeron 400 ain't long for this box, though...

You are actually doing pretty decent for a 500 Mhz processor and lots
of eye candy.  I'd recommend setting the Detail Bias closer to 1/2 or
2/3rds to the right.  Other big differences will be turning off
Beveled Tires, Driver Arms, and setting your mirrors to Cars Only.
That Glide wrapper will help bunches, too.

Hello,  what is a good frame rate for GPL ?  I get about 12 fps at the start
of the race and it goes up to about 33 fps.  I run it at 800 x 600 and I had
the detail bias at the middle.  I have a PIII 500,  32 mg Anihilator 2
geforce GTS, 256 mg ram, Creative soundblaster live OEM.  What should I be
expecting ?  What is a good frame rate to compare with ?  Thanks Daryll  PS.
that's in the*** pit mode.  I also have the D3D patch with the new GPL
1.2.

The GPL frame rate is capped at 36fps maximum. With that PC you should be
getting 36 almost all the time, and you should be able to run at 1024x768.
You might want to try moving the detail bias slider (in the graphics options
screen) to the left until the frame rate improves. I have a PII 333, Voodoo
3 3000 AGP, 128MB RAM and I get 36 fps all the time at 1024x768.

The frame rate in GPL is deceiving: if it gets below 36 it is immediately
obvious, unlike most driving games which degrade gradually. You really want
to have 36 consistently.

Yes djs something seems radically wrong with your system & gpl with the
specs you have shown below.. Rob is correct.. Good Luck Thom_j.

Sounds like your a little low.  I have a...
Dell p3 600
256 megs ram
sblive
geforce 256 (32meg)

At the start at Monaco, at the back, 32 fps, within a few seconds,  a rock
solid 36 fps.

Max frame rate in GPL is 36, but I think there are some user patches that
free this up.  Have you installed the D3D patch?  If you have, then
something's wrong.  If you haven't then install it quick, because with the
patch and your system you should probably be getting max frame rates at max
detail at 1024x res, maybe even higher, pretty much all the time--even at
the start of a race.

20 fps, but at which track?  Some tracks are a lot slower than other.

If I can remember correctly from when I had a V5 5500 AGP I used to get
about 27 fps under the following conditions with a P3-450.  Try the same
settings and see what results you get-

Race-start at Monza, before the flag drops, in-car view, 1024*768, detail
slider bar on full, all graphics options on (including full mirrors) max
simulateous sounds.  That's at the very back of a full grid (19 oponents).

If you get ~27 then everything is probably setup right.  You might want to
replace your CPU since they're pretty cheap now.

Ok I tried Monza I got 8 fps at the start of the race.  I not sure if I am
setting the drivers up right.  Thanks again  Daryll

Well, those numbers were on my old V5, I don't get that sort of speed from
my current card (GeForce 2 gts with p3-650).

I've just run the exact same test on my GF2 and I get 21/22 fps before the
flag drops.  I think with GF2 and P3-500 you should be getting alot more
than 8 fps, probably more like 20.

All I can think of is to check you're using d3d, check the d3d settings in
the core.ini, and check you don't have anti-aliasing turned on in the nvidia
d3d settings.
