GPL Frame rate question

by bo » Tue, 01 Dec 1998 04:00:00

I've been running GPL for about a month now on the following machine:

PII 300
12 meg Creative Labs voodoo2
64 meg ram
etc.

I have GPL installed fully to the harddrive.  When I'm playing, I can never
get anything more than about 20fps.  It runs fine - usually -, but I've
noticed lots of posts saying that comparable machines are hitting 36fps (and
not having to worry about it getting choppy in traffic).

I'm running the game with 19 other cars.  Is this the problem?  I'm also
running at the maximum resolution.  Is this a bigger problem?  Or is there
some other reason that I'm not getting the frame rate which I apparently
should be?

Thanks.

on a 300 you will need to turn detail bias to 50% and  turn off a couple of
textures
to get full fps, even at 400-450 its quite a load. can you overclock your cpu?

Umm.  How would this be done?  I went Start-Settings-Control
Panel-Video-3dFx but couldn't find anything about it.  Am I just not seeing
something?  Thanks.

How do you turn off the vertical sync on the Voodoo2. I don't see
anything like that in the control panel.

Why don't you try running with a field of 5 cars and then you'll answer your
own question....  I doubt the resolution will have much impact, but it
depends how much memory your V2 has--again, try adjusting and find out for
yourself!!!

Marc.

% How do you turn off the vertical sync on the Voodoo2. I don't see

If your card is Creative Labs' download their RC drivers at
http://www.creaf.com/graphics/voodoo2/drivers.html
This will add the option to your 3dfx property sheet.

Or you can get the control panel by itself at
http://www.3dfx.com/software/Win9x_CP.zip (this is the "generic" 3dfx
control panel).
