GPL: Frame Rate question

by Jo » Mon, 01 Feb 1999 04:00:00

Hi,

and a voodoo card. The graphics acceleration is done by the voodoo.
If i'm in the arcade view i get constant 36 fps with my display
settings, but in the driving view, which i prefer, i get about 20-30 fps.
I know that there are some problems with***pits and voodoos.
The graphics card seems to be the bottleneck.

What kind of upgrade would you suggest?
Rendition v2200 or voodoo 2, would that help?

thanks,

Joachim

For P2-300 and below: The Rendition 2200. Above the P2-300 you could
consider a Voodoo2. I've a Celeron 450 with a Rendition 2200 and
Voodoo2 SLI. I prefer the Rendition.

IMO definitely the rendition. If GPL is your main concern then get an 8meg
thriller. If you also play games requiring 3dfx then... well... voodoo
banshee is great. As Remco said the rendition is the best for slower cpu's.
As someone who had a 200 with the 8meg thriller I must say that even though
the video upgrade will help that GPL is a huge cpu hog and I wasn't really
satisfied until I upgraded to a 450. Now it is freaking unbelievable.

If you plan on upgrading to a new PC in the next few months, you might want
to get a Voodoo2.  This way you can move the Voodoo2 to the new PC and have
your choice of the latest greatest cards (running at 200+ MHz, 4x AGP) as
the primary video card.

Hi John,

I am currently running a 3dfx addon board.
In comparison to my current setup, will the thriller
produce better fps?

thanks,

Joachim

I think your problem is the cpu. I have a celeron overclocked to 374mhz and
128 mb of ram. I have a voodoo 1 card and i get 35-36 fps in the***pit

with all the graphics on.
