Saitek Joystick throttle problem GP3 and F1 2001

I cant get the throttle working on my Saitek Cyborg USB joystick with
windows XP
and GP3 or F1 2001.  It works fine with Windows ME.

The throttle works fine in all other games with XP but is not recognised by
GP3 2000 or F1 2001.

I also had problems before with windows me and Directx8. I had to install
the joystick and game with DirectX7 and and then upgrade to 8 after the
joystick was working.

Maybe this is a Direct 8 issue?

Any ideas please?
