Can't Run NFS High Stakes Demo

        I'm experiencing a problem similar to the one described under
"VIDEO AND GRAPHICS PROBLEMS" in the NFSHS readme.  Installation is
problem-free but as soon as I try to run the program, nothing happens
(aside from the mouse pointer momentarily turning into an hourglass).
I cannot run the demo using either Voodoo3 or software rendering.

        I have a Voodoo3 2000 PCI, Windows 98, DirectX 6.1, and am
currently running the latest (non-Q3) reference drivers available from
www.3dfx.com.  I've tried re-installing the drivers that are on my
Voodoo3 CD (as specified in NFSHS's readme) but this does nothing.  

        Incidentally, the only other game I have which gives me
similar problems is NFS3.  

        Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried adding -d3d0 to the command line? This usually fixes video probs with NFS3.

        Same result.  I can't get this demo to run in any video mode!

Epilogue:

        I finally got the demo to work this morning.  It turns out
that the real culprit behind the NFSHS demo not running (and NFS3
crashing) was the insidious old W95.CIH virus.
        Scan your hard drives regularly, I say!
