You know several times now I have considered buying Agent for the
filtering abilities. Then when I thought about it I wondered what was
the point....after all a person can go out of control for a bit then
in the next bit give me some tid bit of interesting information. So I
have always decided to NOT use killfiles...after all the truly stupid
shits are amusing in their own ways....and I kind of look forward to
what types of truly silly shit they are gonna display for me now. For
instance Stevie on the flight sims group was an excellent candidate
for my killfile (if I had one)...based on numerous past posts. But
look at what I would have missed....as he has truly been entertaining
with his latest round of british holier than thou crap.

Now a filtering option for subjects might be better...

Gnus has temporary score reductions in addition to permanent ones.

Gnus gives you all that and more (scoring by subject, poster, body,
anything you like). Of course, it's not quite point-and-drool like GUI
newsreaders, but once configured makes it a breeze for me to read the
stuff I'm probably interested in, ignore the stuff I'm almost
certainly not, and decide on the stuff in the middle as I have time
available.

gnu.emacs.gnus for more info. (And it's free to boot.)

Jim, just out of interest I would like to know what controler you and
other papy programers use for driving  your own racing sims.  ECCI?
TSW? Thrustmaster? DIY? Joystick?
thanx

Forte Agent also allows you to put an expiry on the kill filter. I
gave ymenard a 30 days "sin-bin" last month, but now it's expired and
I notice that he's pretty cool now (Hi Francois :-) !).

You can also filter by subject, which is pretty handy for these IE v's
Netscape or Mac v's PC discussion that blow up occasionally and rage
for days. You may also set it to retrieve posts automatically, so I
log on and get headers, some people's messages I get bodies for as
well automatically, and the others I mark and get on the next pass.

Pretty handy IMO, but it depends what you're used to. If you're used
to IE or Netscape it may be a bit daunting at first.

Cheers!
John

Hi,
Sounds kind of interesting. I just did a search and see that Forte
offers a "FreeAgent" do you know if this has those features also?
I subscribe to a bunch of other NGs just to get some questions out but
really have no interest in retrieving all the headers so this sounds like
it may be helpful. Thanks, Mike

I have used Free Agent in the past and although it does offer some of
these features...  I prefer Netscape.  May be just because Im so use to
Communicator =)

I LIKE IT! Never heard that one before -- it's a keeper! Do I have to
pay you a royalty for its use?

I like freeagent alot....but I guess the point I was trying to make is
even the stupid shits (of which Im sure to have been one, once or
twice) are amusing and I have fun reading their latest hallucinations.

Probably helps that I dont take much of this seriously...unless
warranted by information I consider useful. Then I usually thank the
poster for his contribution to signal strength...

But thanks for the info regardless...both Jim and John...

Thank you very much.  At least someone who saw I've changed.  It's my new
year resolution to be good on r.a.s. :-)  I was good everywhere but here.
But hey if you had the choice between the "pre-ymenard" or Nosferatu... Who
would you killfile?

IMHO the pre-ymenard, even if he was stupid and immature, was helping
people. Have you ever saw Nosferatu helping someone ???

<sarcatic> Is he Don Wilshe under a false identity ??</sarcastic>

I think the filters are something that is disabled in the free version
of Agent unfortunately.

Cheers!

Have you checked to see if I have helped people? Obviously not. In
fact I just received an email request not five minutes ago to send a
file for Indycar. I gladly did so. Just admit it, some of you don't
like the truth because it hurts you too much to realize your just big
headed - think- you - know - it - all - dweebs.

I wouldn't wast my time on that ymenard idiot. His reputation here is
worse than yours :-)

A mixed bag mostly; naming a particular company or product is probably
too close to making an inappropriate endor***t.
