N1999 / N2 / GPL - Colors

When you right click on the Win98 desktop and bring up the Graphic
Properties... you can select resolution of course, but also color depth..

16, 256, 16 bit,  32 bit.

Does this selection impact the graphic quality of the games?

I run N2 (Renddma) from Win98 as wel as N1999 (3dfx/Rendition) and GPL
(3dfx/Rendition).
