GPL 3Dfx graphics corruption problem

by Fredrik Th?rnel » Wed, 28 Jul 1999 04:00:00

I have a P166/80Mb with a Skywell Magic3D II Voodoo2/12Mb card.

Sometimes while driving GPL it seems like all the textures in the game get
corrupted. The road, the sky, the surroundings all end up in weird
semi-transparent checkered textures.

When I <Esc-Return> to the pits, the background is as it should but the mouse
pointer and the text is just blurry blocks - no sign of the original letters
at all.

I've also had this problem occur in Warbirds, Dawn of Aces, Alien vs Predator,
Carmageddon II etc etc.

What can be the reason? Is my 3Dfx card broken somehow? It certainly looks
like if resets all or parts of its texture memory at times, something like
that.

I have Skywell's latest drivers installed.

It'd be very nice if you send a copy of any replies by private mail as well as
my news feed is uncertain at best.

Any help much appreciated,

Try the reference drivers from 3Dfx. I had track and tree texture corruption on my
Diamond Voodoo2 12mb. The ref. drivers cleared it right up and also made the
colors more vibrant. Give them a shot, it worked for and many others. They can be
found at: http://www.europe.3dfx.com/view.asp?IOID=30
Hope this helps!

Cheers,
Bob

GPL 3Dfx graphics corruption problem

Hi!

I had the same problem and the cause was the heatsink of the V2 which
had nearly completely dismounted. It was sticked on the chip with just a
little piece of doublesided tape. Thanks God it didn't fall on my SB
Live which is located directly under the V2. I fixed the heatsink (this
time much better ;)) and the texture problems were gone. So I'd say that
you open your computer and have a look for the V2.

Bye!
Crash
