N2 T2 Diamond Stealth II S220 AWE64 Problem

by Jim Robins » Thu, 29 Jan 1998 04:00:00

I have just set up a new system.  PII 233MMX 64MB RAM AWE and a
Diamond Stealth II S220 Win95 B.

Here is the problem.

Under Windows, I can run the RENDDMA,  Great graphics.  No T2 wheel.
I have downloaded the Thrustmaster Propanel and DirectX.  Nice
additions to the Control Panel, but both say the wheel is not
connected.

If I run in DOS, I get the wheel, but N2REND and RENDDMA both say they
can't access the Rendition chip on the S220.

Choice now is better graphics with keyboard control, or the wheel with
poorer graphics.  I would like both.

Does anyone know how to either get Windows to see the wheel or get DOS
to recognize the video card?  I will take either solution.

Does using the axis-converter make a difference?

Pulling the plug in and out a couple of times always helped me.  Sometimes,
Win95 doesn't recognize my controllers until I do that.

I needed it with the prior system.  It is still in place, however, I
have tried it both ways (in mounting desparation).

Start with rebooting the machine. Then try all the selections, even Nascar
Pro. Try with and without the axis converter. Also, make sure you are using
Device1.

Check the following as this happens in my system.

Click the steeing wheel icon in TM propanel and make sure "rudders" is
not checked. If checked it will show your device is unplugged.
I switch between gamepad, steering wheels and flight controllers
constantly using a "Joyswitch" and TM propanel. As mentioned whenever
I switch to my GP1 (with adapter) it always says device unplugged
until I remove the rudders checkmark.

stockcar section, they have a file to fix the chip problem in DOS.  If I
remember right, it changes the exe file so that it looks for the new
Rendition chip instead of the old one.  It works fine now in DOS for me.  As
for T2 in Win95, I have the same problem and haven't figured it out yet.
Good luck.

There's a program called V2DOSFIX that will modify N2 so that it will
recognize the Stealth II board in DOS.  It's not an official patch, so I'd
back up my nasrend.exe file for sure.  I've been using the patch and I can
run N2 in DOS on my Stealth II card OK.  The frame rate is about the same
for me running it through DOS or Win95.

I can't remember where I got that patch at.  Sorry.  Try a search for
V2DOSFIX and you should find it.

Best of luck,
Mike B.

I run the same config. The T2, s220, AWE64, Win95 b, an overclocked Pentium
133( 2x75 150mhz). I too switch between a gamepad and the T2.The
Thrustmaster Propanel never notices the switch between the two devices until
I select the win95 "game controllers" under control panel. After I remove
the gamepad and select the T2 with adapter, I can then go to the propanel
and calibrate it. I was using a Thrustmaster gamecard, but took it out to
free up an isa slot. Running through the awe 64 seems to work fine....

Thanks to everyone who posted or Emailed suggestions.

Win95 still doesn't see the wheel, but the V2DOSFIX now allows N2 to
see the new video chip.  I'm up and running.

Thanks again.
