OK, here's where I *really* display my ignorance: I'm building another
system on the cheap, primarily for GPL. I've got a perfectly good
Diamond Stealth II S220 card. What's a good 3D card (I plan on buying
used or NOS -- low cost is the object here) with pass-through to mate
with the Stealth? I'm thinking Canopus Pure 3D or 3DII. Am I barking up
the wrong hydrant here -- any recommendations appreciated.

  It kinda depends on what speed cpu you are gonna stick in there.
The Stealth II already is a 3d card and will run gpl at or above the
level of the Canopus Pure 3d.(I) but slighlty slower than the(II).
  If you're running a P200 or less in the system, just leave the Stealth
alone by itself.  If your are getting into the PII category, then any
other 3dfx card will be an improvement(EXCEPT the RUSH or Banshee)  With
the low prices on a V3 2000, you might just want to yank out the stealh
and throw in that.

Seems that around here Fry's electronics has the V2 1000 for $39 or $49
(after rebate of course) fairly regularly...already got one...

Believe me, it's much better than the S220...my G200/V2/Celery 450a
outperforms my S220/PII466 in EVERY game, INCLUDING GPL...not to mention
that the only way to get anything other than software to work in N3/NL on
the S220 I had to use reference drivers, and both N3/NL look horribly
pixelated (like the textures are in 320x200 but the game is in 640x480) on
it, but better than software :)

Now I'm already looking for a cheap Voodoo3 to drop into the 450a and let
the PII466 have the G200/V2...
