This looks to ROCK.  I hope the PC version get's all that the PS2 is
getting!  It looks pretty damn real to me.  There are even cameras flashing
in the grandstands when the cars go by!  No in-car views though.  As good as
everything else looks, I would be surprised if the***pit view wasn't up to
par.  Check it out at:

The best part was the pit guy*** over the wall with the pitboard.
Looked very real.  Now all we need is a CART sim so we can see a digital
version of Ashley Judd*** over the wall :)

The graphics look extremely impressive indeed.. whoa..
But F1CS2k was allready quite a cpu hog, I wonder what system we will
need for this one..

It doesn't look that much better than the current F1 2kcs for the PS2 (which
is quite good).
The most noticable difference is the pit guy (which is a neat idea, I just
wonder if I'll be able to read it though). All the graphics look pretty much
the same (the Ferrari had a new graphic car model to reflect the 2001
Ferrari). The track graphics seemed a little sharper, but I'm not used to
watching the cars from outside the***pit. The current F1 2kcs PS2 version
had the camera flashes in the grandstands already, thats not new.

FWIW, F1 2001 runs at least twice as fast as F1CS2K on my current
system.  So far, the PC graphics remind me of a cross between GPL and
NFSPU . . . which is a pretty good mix, IMO.

I am currently working on an F1 2001 preview for the Blackhole
Motorsports site -- EA has provided me with a beta version that
doesn't include all the tracks or all the features, but I have noticed
that the pit guys look around and move occasionally when you're not in
the pits -- VERY lifelike! <G>

The physics are impressive -- ISI has added some unique touches that
really make this VERY immersive.  I hesitate to say whether or not the
physics modeling is GPL-calibur, but it is a step up from the F1CS2K
physics.  The physics model is amazingly communicative -- I find
myself working the steering wheel like an F1 driver, and when the back
end comes around, I usually know WHY it did, and in most cases I know
WHAT I did to exceed the 10/10ths mark.

The tracks are all-new as far as I can tell, and so far my lap times
at Indy (where I've probably turned the most laps in F1CS2K) are
miserable.  I have no trouble turning laps at Indy in F1CS2K that
easily exceed Schumi's 2000 Indy pole speed, but in F1 2001, I'm not
even sure I'm even close to a decent qualifying time yet.  The level
of effort required reminds me a lot of GPL . . . I'll leave it up to
you guys to eventually decide if it equals GPL physics-wise, but so
far, I'm impressed.

John, excuse me for my ignorance but what is your current system?
When will the preview be up?

Thanks,

I'm sorry to bother you with this, but in a sense, declaring that you
have the preview version, you asked for it :):

Any chance of trying this title with a FF wheel and giving the
impressions in your preview?

Whoa! F1 2001 Movie (PS2)

by John Bod » Fri, 24 Aug 2001 01:58:33

I'm running F1 2001 on a Duron 700 system with 128 MB of RAM and a 32
MB GeForce256 card (with a Windows 98 operating system).

When I did the preview of F1CS2K for the BHMS site, I had my Duron
cranked up to 750 MHz, but I've since had to crank it back to 700 for
stability.  Even at 700 MHz, though, F1 2001 performs better than
F1CS2K ever did.  I'm having trouble getting FRAPS to show up
consistently, but so far I've seen solid readings in the 38 - 50 fps
range when I have been able to get FRAPS to work.

Hopefully the preview will be done in the next week or so.

That's on my list of things to do . . . I've been testing with my TSW2
wheel, so I need to drag out my Saitek R4 Force wheel to check out the
FF effects.  The internals of the Saitek is almost identical to the
MSFF wheel, FWIW (I think they are licensed from Microsoft), so this
should give me a good indication of what you FF users should
experience.

Thanks John,

you do know that your preview is the single most awaited article for
me:). I know it won't disappoint, even if F1 2001, in an alternate
universe, would.

Greetings,
