All:
Well! After two days of test-driving and number-crunching, I seem to have
"figured out" the setup system of F1 2001. Boy, do I know more now than I
ever did about car setup...! Guys and gals, this *really* is the GPL of the
PlayStation2. I mean it - GT3 doesn't hold a *candle* to the simulation
driving model in this game.
If you recall, in my previous review post (on f1gamers.com), I commented
that if downforce is set up for understeer, there is a screeching sound
along straights, hindering top speed. I am stupid. I WAS BOTTOMING OUT. It
took two days for me to realize that (by trial and error)! Doofus!
After *properly* setting up my Ferrari F2001, I seem to have solved the
following quirks of EA's masterpiece:
1. Overly-sensitive driving controls.
2. Oversteer on all parts of all tracks.
3. Unrealistic high-speed cornering ability.
Here are my findings. Soon (perhaps), I will create a section of my website
(home.austin.rr.com/jpwilson) that will host this information permanently
for all to see and contribute to.
Note: these are extreme values. I encourage you to use these as a base, and
tweak to suit your driving style. This setup works well at medium-speed
curcuits like Silverstone (my testbed).
