One last question on 3d cards....

by Schlom » Thu, 17 Jun 1999 04:00:00

Ok after reading numerous posts on this NG from the past, reading several
reviews, and asking opinions of friends i have come to this conclusion....I'm
getting the Viper 770 Ultra AND a VooDoo2 or Rendition for N2/99.  The question
is...do i get the VooDoo or do i get the Rendition.  I have a P2 300mhz and
96MB ram and from what ive read the VooDoo might be the better choice since
Rendidtion seems to help P1's more that P2's.  Anybody who has both could give
me an answer it would be apprectiated. TIA.

The question really is do you want the 770 or the rendition? The Voodoo2
is a 3D only card while the other 2 are 2D/3D. Are you sure this is your
last question about this?

  I don't have a Rendition card.  I do have a V2.  From what I've
heard the Rendition card is allmost unsorported nowadays.  Unless you
count D3D as support. :-)  I'd go with the V2, or perhaps a pair in
SLI.

Rendition cards are 2D/3D so you can't have it AND the Viper - it's one or
the other. You can have the Viper & the V2. From what I'm hearing these
days, a V3 is probably the best bang for the buck (unless you need the
OpenGL support from the Viper)
Personally, I ain't buying anything from Diamond again untill hell freezes
over - or I get my Monster II rebate...

Hello Steve; I have the AGP 8mg Herc Thiller with the V2200 Rend'
chipset.. Also I just boughtt 2 new 3dfx Voodoo2 12mgs for Sli and
these cards are amazing!
I really like my Herc Thriller but as stated in your post the Rendition
seems to be slowly going away.. I have the Rendition Icr2 & I have
never seen any DOS based program with the graphics in any game
or sim as in the Icr2 Rendition Verite' version...
Cleveland alone with the sun' setting over the lake is unreal! I wish
they'd re-make Icr2/Cart with the Gpl engine for Windows 9x but
I don't think we will ever see it? So I am opting for the new 32mg
Herc TNT2 Ultra and letting my Herc Thriller go soon. Time goes
on...eh?
Cheers Thom_j.

The answer is quite simple: you cannot have both Viper and Rendition since
these are 2D/3D cards (unless you want to play around with Win98
multi-display and a couple of monitors). V2 is a 3D-only addon card which
works with both Viper and Rendition ...

Your options:
Viper + V2
Rendition + V2
