Thank you for putting a misleading suybject on a completely pointless
message. At least plug an empty site or something.

Oh come on, we've learned to wait until the demo at least, if not
the genuine item...

After all, SoS may end up more like MGPRS2's retro-mode than GPL
<shiver>.  :(

nothing to be frightened of, and no limit, any fool could get into
a motor car and racing would not exist as a sport." -- Jim Clark

LOL.

Anyways, I actually have the feeling that SoS will be like a 1937 version of
TOCA. i.e A damn good arcade racer, but definately not a sim.
Hasbro/Microprose will go for realism in GP3 (when it eventually appears)

Thats my opinion anyway. Waiting to be proved wrong.

What concerns me about the screenshots of SofS1937 is all those arcady numbers
in the sky.
Papy would avoid that like the plague.
Don't think the drivers of the time would have seen those unless they were '3
sheets to the wind' (drunk) at the time of drivin'
LOL

You may be right and you may be wrong :) Look at SCGT, it has arcady numbers,
but it is by r.a.s. defined as A Good Sim.

My worst concern is that I haven't seen any screenshots from the***pit yet.

I'm really looking forward to this game, imagine driving Avus and Brookland.
Too bad the monza banking wasn't build before 51 or something. Or am i wrong
here ?

Common ras protocol is to "NEVER" mention MGPRS2's retro-mode unless it is
absolutely nessesairy!

Olav, Avus was the most BORING circuit in Europe (even at it's original
length, before WW2) and Monza had the banking from the time it was
originally built (just after Adam and Eve arrived! :o))

Avus was indeed boring with two 10km straights the cars was just going
flatout for minutes before either braking for the hairpin at one end or
taking the banking at the other.

And THE Monza banking we see in the GPL Monza did not exist in the 30s,
but the track did have a much shallower earth banking which was indeed
used for racing during some of the GPs in the 30s. Not sure which
configuration was used in 37, but the 38 one can be seen at:
http://www.ddavid.com/formula1/images/trk_monza.jpg

I really hope they make some of the other tracks of the 30s though: very
fast Bremgarten, the triangular 26km track at Pescara and best of all
the old 29km Brno track!

Check out the great tracks of the time at:
http://www.ddavid.com/formula1/track.htm

Seems to me that my remarks about Avus caused some stir :)

The only reason I want to race Avus, it that it is the only track I have
seen in real life. My family was in Berlin in 89 (Yeah, three months before
they opened up, really weird) and my father showed me a huge banked corner
from some tower of some sort we went up in, and told me they raced there
earlier. So I just want to race there :) But as you say i will probably find
it boring, if it's not turning into a draft-fest :)

And admit it, the pic of the Avus-banking on http://www.skypages.com/grandprix/
do look great. Actually if find every black/white image of grand prix
racing from the 30's to the late 60's a bit mystical. It's so out of this
world.

I have seen one (ONE!) sshot from***pit from an italian magazine (i
live in italy:)) & it felt good to me
as for arcade numbers, i blame papyrus: if you want a die hard sim,
then don't put in any external views, but in ext views it would be
nice to have a rear mirror & maybe a map, if anyone thinks this too
arcade can always switch them off or use interior view
by the way my real life car has nothing like the black string with
silly numbers on the bottom:))

I agree, Avus was and is boring, even with the banking. The Italian Grand
Prix in 1937 was at Livorno (the Italians changed it from Monza to try and
give the home cars an advantage, but it didn't work), so Monza would be out.
BUT, what about the Mellaha circuit at Tripoli! The second fastest after
Avus (1937 fastest lap 171.74 mph) with a fastest 1937 lap at 142.44mph,
with corners, and palm trees to boot! Even the drivers of the day liked it.
