GPL newbie TNT2 help

I've only just got a PC, GPL and MS sidewinder FF wheel so forgive my
ignorance on PC issues but I need a bit of help :)

The PC is a P3 600 with a TNT2 ultra 32MB 770 Nvidia card and the v3.53
detonator driver (does that sound about right?) but I'm having some
trouble with GPL.

From reading the group I know a voodoo card is better for GPL but I've
just got to work with what I've got. Basically I get graphics glitches.
Every 20 seconds or so I get a stutter where the game pauses for a split
second and also sometimes when I enter practice or the race I get very
flickery graphics. If I go back to the setup and change from 1028x768 to
800x600 sometimes it's ok in that resolution and sometimes it flickers
in that too but I can switch back to 100x768 and it's fine. I DO have
the papy openGL patch and the UK 1.2 patch too.

Any ideas?

GPL is great. 1.36 at monza so far with Alison's set ups which I know is
a***poor lap time but I need to get the car understeering a little
less first :)

Thanks

Kev

The 3.53 Nvidia drivers are probably the source of your flickering. I would use
the 2.08 drivers.

Slow down more on your corner entrance and trail brake into the corner, then
power oversteer out.

Kevin,

You may want to play with the Advanced Settings under the Windows
Display Properties, are your mirrors OK?

This may or may not help, make sure you have all other programs closed when
you launch GPL. Do a ctrl-alt-del, which will pull up your running programs.
End all tasks except systray and explorer. This will at least free up some
resources for you if you have a lot of programs running in the background.
Also make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card as well.
Another thing you can check is the "polls with interrupts" box in your game
controller section in win98's control panel. Remove the check mark if that
box is checked.
I run in 3dfx, so it may just be a glitch running in opengl that someone
else can help you with.
Aren't Allison's setups great? I re-installed GPL after a few months of not
having it on my system, and am starting to love it more than I ever did
before. The physics model just can't be beat. I love Allison's Coventry
setups, very stable - may not be the fastest, but pretty dang consistant.

Where can I get the UK 1.2 patch, and what does it do?

Thanks!

I had the same problem you do with the detonator drivers and finally went
back to creative drivers
I stumbled over this post a few days ago, though:

"It's not very obvious how to find it; just in case you did not the path is:
Control Panel Display Settings Advanced Riva TNT2 Additional Open GL
Settings Buffer flipping Block mode

This combined with mirror rate 3 and the Detonator drivers fixed all the
remaining Open GL problems I had"

Try messing around with that and please let me know if it works because the
detonator drivers are faster than the creative drivers.

Jaz,

Thanks for the advice. I tried the advanced settings from the 'GPL:
TNT2-Detonator Mirrors not right!' thread and the mirrors are great now.
I'll try a different TNT driver tonight and one of the other suggestions.

Cheers

Kev

I've solved all the problems except the stutter now by doing the flip
block thing. I have noticed that other games stutter too (most notably
half life) so the only thing left is to change the driver. Where can I
get 'older' versions of the driver?

Sure your not running anything in the background?  My games stutter too of I
don't shut everything else down. Press  CTRL ALT DEL and End Task everything
except your systray and explorer.  As far as old drivers, email the
manufacturer of your card or your system.
