GPL +TNT2+Opengl=SLOW frame rates

by Key_Bor » Mon, 24 May 1999 04:00:00

Hi All,

I just purchased a CL TNT2 Ultra and can only get from 7 to 22 fps at
640-480. I used to get 36 fps on my VooDoo 2 card at the same screen
size. I there something else I need to do or is this the best I can
expect from this setup ??? I am running a 450PII and 128 meg of ram.

Thanks
George

I ran a TNT(1) (OC'd to 120 mem and 115 chip) with the opengl patch at
800x600 (in-car) with mirrors ever eight and 36fps with no problems.

You have installed the OpenGL patch, right? Use the mirror fixes that
are explained in the readmegl.txt file. You can also speed up the
frame rate by using the arcade view instead of the***pit view.

This is incredible.  I have a TNT, works much better than my brother's
V2 (not to mention 2/3 price).  I can't believe the TNT2 ALSO has a
problem with that mirroring funtion they mention in the OpenGL patch.

NVidia do say 'full OpenGL ICD support', whatever ICD means.  After
this amount of time, and a new revision of TNT, I think this must be
papy's fault.

I can't believe TNT2 would still have this problem.  Oh, well...  I
can only sympathise with you...

"Full OpenGL ICD support" means that nvidia's ICD supports all
OpenGL functions.  It does.  It just supports some of them too
slowly.  At least according to Papy.

The only way to really know whose fault it is would be to run
OpenGL GPL on some other card and see if the problem persists.
Unfortunately, no other *** card seems to have a good enough
ICD to run OpenGL GPL.  (Someone correct me if they've got it
working on a non-TNT.)

For the upcoming release of Quake 3 Arena, everyone will be
releasing full OpenGL drivers.  So we should be able to compare
soon enough.
