mss32.dll did it break F1 2001 + the mods?

by Dave Henri » Thu, 06 Jun 2002 12:18:04

i think i've broken my F1 2001 install.  After sucessfully running the
FIAGT_V3 mod,  for some reason I took somebody's advice and looked for the
Japanese mod...JSCT or something close to that.   Anyhow it wouldn't start
cuz unzipping it I sent it to one folder too deep, so I had ea sports/f1
2001\f2001\jsct
when I moved everything from the 2nd nested f1 2001 folder, I then got an
error saying missing file mss32.dll.  I ran a search on my system and found
it in two places, the Warcraft 3 demo and a photo program.  copied the file
to the f1 2001 folder and still the jsct wouldn't work.  No problem..I'd
just reload the FIA GT mod right?  Well now that won't work either.  the
menu icons at the bottom of the main screen only spin about 1/2 a full
revolution then pause for over a second.  the arrow icons to choose between
test, race, multiplayer etc...take SEVERAL seconds to A) recognize the mouse
being placed on them, and B) then accepting a mouse clik.  Once that happens
it's sayonara baby..ctd.  So what did the Japanese mod do or what is the
mss32.dll and why does F1 2001 suddenly need it now..???

Dave, i had a similar problem. I unzipped it 1 folder too far, i selected
the f1 2001 folder but it extracts an extra f1 2001 folder onto that. Anyway
i thought i'd just copy the files but it wouldnt work, and i had to delete
that installation of f12k1. If you install it to root f1 2001 directory
first, the mod works without fail, and its worth it forsure. Dont know how
much h/d space you have but ive kept my fia v3 mod in its own installation
of f1 2001.. good luck!

Hi Dave,

It looks like your going to have to do some cleaning-up!

I would recommend that you completely un-install F1 altogether... Then start
from scratch (After having manually deleted what folders remained.)

Of course you kept all your downloaded Mods and patches in separate folders.
(If not go and dowmload them ;o)

Now installing the JGTC is straightforward as far as I remember, TDI needs
some manually copied folder and Config.ini editing. ALMS is easy (.exe) so
is FIAGT V3.

Do re-boot before re-installing to make sure the registry is refreshed. I
think that your problem stems from a garbled registry, which is why I
recommend you do some housekeeping.
