GPL online: 1.0 vs 1.1

GPL online: 1.0 vs 1.1

by Warren Reich » Thu, 30 Sep 1999 04:00:00

Hi everybody !

Actually, I have no ability to race online and cannot compare the subj
myself, but...
There is an increased minimum ride hight (from 1 inch to 2.5 ) in GPL 1.1
according to readme11.txt and impossibility to make it lower in setup )
But I've found a huge number of low setups in the Web to be fastest. So the
question:  Are these versions compatible online?
And if they are, is it fair enough ? Are the users of v1.1 dedicated to be
slower than nearly the same skill drivers who use non-patched GPL ?

Sorry if I wrote something incorrect, but I meant if I play with my friend
who uses GPL 1.1, and me - 1.0 ,do I theoretically have an ability to setup
my car lower and faster ?

    Thank you, Liutger .

Don't you know, what version dominates in online racing ?

the network protocol of version 1.1 is incompatible with 1.0. you won't
be able to connect your machines that way though ...

1.1 at the moment, but 1.2 is on its way and will be used as soon as it
is out, because it fixes some annoying problems with 1.1 ... it's the
same with all online-games: the newest version regardless of
incampatibilities with older versions is almost always used (take a look
at quake(world) and the successors e.g.)

GPL versions are not compatible online (1.0 will only connect with
1.0, 1.1 with 1.1, the soon to be 1.2 only with 1.2).

If you load a "low-rider" setup into 1.1 or later, the ride eight
is automatically raised to the new minimum.
