NASCAR 2002 DEMO OUT!!!!

Computer *** world also has a two page preview.(the upcomming issue
with RPG's on the cover)
My first impression from the article:  They stated they dropped the Nascar
3, 4, 5 naming convention and changed to a yearly name..i.e. 2002.  This
accomplished two things...consumers can buy it and know the new cars are
included...and the expectations of a HUGE Quantum leap  from the old version
to a new one can be deminished.  I have NO problem with either concept, but
retailing a yearly update for $50 seems waaay to pricey.
Some of the other tidbits....working on the AI(check EVERY Papyrus title
since Indy 500, you'll see that feature :>  )   and increased graphic
textures, driving school, racing line...the core seems to be fairly
consistant with N4 but several extras outside the actual racing have been
added.

This will be the first Nx game which I definately won't be getting...

NASCAR 2002 DEMO OUT!!!!

Any particular reason for saying this.  At first glance, the Demo looks
pretty nice.  Those who expect 100 fps might as well forget it, though some
will swear they get as much even though they don't.

I'm running a P4 1.3 with a GeForce 3 ti200 and 256 RAM.  I got 30 fps in
the single race, at 1024x768x16 with all cars and all options on high,
without filtering and lighting.  The game ran pretty smoothly and looked
nice.  I figure that with a little tweaking I could get at least 40 fps.
I'm more than happy with that.

Franklin, and other GeForce3 owners that are getting these low frame rates.
Go into your graphics option in N2002 demo, see if the install defaulted
antriscopic filtering on - if so, remove the check mark - you should see
vast improvement in framerates - at least I did . My Athlon XP1600 with
geForce3 Ti200 is now in the 70's., whereas before it was in the upper 20's.
I was pretty frustrated with it until I stumbled across that.

I had that turned off from the beginning.  I do get 70 fps but that's during
testing.  Like I said earlier, I get around 30 fps with everything high and
all cars, running 1024x768x16.  I'm satisfied with that.

You didn't mention what resolution you were running in and under what
circumstances.  Not saying that you are doing the same, but you get so much
of "I'm running 1600x1200 all max settings and all cars and I'm getting 70
fps" stuff that it's no longer believable that someone is getting that kind
of rate.  Folks do tend to exaggerate.  Why, I'm not sure, but they do
nevertheless.

I just don't see it as value for the price.  For full price, I expect
a new game while this is, at most, just tweaking of the existing
product.  I might pay $15 or 20 for this, but no more.

I was running 1024x768x32 bit , world detail medium, draw ahead 50%, car
detail medium, and all others  on high when I posted the below.
I have since changed to 1280x960x32, car detail to high, kept everything
else the same, and am getting around 45-60 fps in a race with 19 drivers,
starting at the rear of the pack. I can certainly live with that.
My system: Athlon XP1600 ( 1.4ghz), GeForce3 ti200, 512 mb ddr ram.

Me too Don & I'm running my lowly Intel P3 1.ghz :) I like the graphics
and the "faster loss of grip" if you go into the turns too hard at Atlanta!
I tend to do this .. :)
