hosting races on cable. Here's some of what I have experienced.
When joining races that others are hosting:
I too get bounced out loosing connections a great percentage of the
time. The ping times look ok, but at times I've encountered packet loss
problems. You cant tell this is going to happen with a ping count. If
the IP address is given (I haven't been able to locate any (someone may
help me here)) instead of just "internet" then you could do a test with
a "ping plotter" this would show you exactly the quality of that
connection and the routing it takes to get there. If you want the
program, download.com has it at

When hosting races:
Excellent results! Low amount of warping problems and long
connection times. One connection last night for about 4 hrs. We ran
several tracks and 6 or so guys staying on for the majority of the time
and others popping in and out all the time. No one complaining (ahhh
maybe one..) of any connecting problems.
Worst experience:
Nothing to do with connections, but other hosts. Have you ever been
running a race, doing well, then the host drops everyone because he
crashed out!?! That Sucks! I've had problems at starts too... so you
just have to sit back, relax, and enjoy watching everyone go by till it
over...
