NASCAR Racing 2 Modem Play - USRobotics 56k Modem

I have a USRobitics Sportster 56k Faxmodem in my Gateway 180mhz
Pentium.  I want to play in multiplayer (modem) mode.  I can't get
NASCAR Racing 2 to recognize or initialize the modem.  I assume this
is because the 56k modem I am using is not a part of the available
modems to choose from on the modem setup screen.  

Is there a way around this problem?
