Well if I could find someone in the 630 area code, here is what I was
going to try.

1) Use Hyper Terminal to connect your 2 W95 computers. The answerer
gives the 'ath0=1' command to answer on the first ring.
2) The caller then calls the other W95 machine.
3) Once the modems connect (which they should), start F1RS.
4) Select MULTIPLAYER and connect to the COM port your modem
     is on.
5) After that I have no idea. Use the FORCE :-)

If you go into MULTIPLAYER when you normally play the game
you will see the COM port had the red no access sign or whatever
it is. I believe this is because you have not connected yet. There is
no way to dial from the game itself (like Nascar2), so I think you have
to connect the W95 computes first. It may then simply look like a
Serial port connection instead of a Modem/Modem connection.

Hope this helps...

G'day Tracey.

You will need dial up networking installed and use ipx\spx also one computer
has to have microsoft plus to act as the network host, also have printer and
file sharing ticked so you can access the others computer?
(we tried connecting without these ticked but didn't work, was ok when we
ticked).

Then set it up to ring your friend after you have logged on boot up F1rs go
to mutiplayer, if you are not sure what to do then you can Email me and I
will try and help.

BTW F1rs does some strange things like you can pass someone and you are not
even close and they will go spinning of the track yet in your car you do not
feel anything, also you can look in mirrors the car looks miles away from
you yet you are literaly right up their clacker, maybe speed factor (lag?)
connected 28800 so if any one else has tips feel free to post or Email me.

Rgds Phil.

yes there is a way...if you have microsoft plus pack you're in luck.
you can set yourself as a server then your friend calls you and off
you go to play f1rs. It's just like if you were on a network. Your
friend has to setup a dialup connection to you using the IPX
protocol...IPX protocol must be installed on both machines i guess

hope it helped, i did it succesfully with my friend

modem to modem racing F1rs

Hi! I tried it and it works very well( except some slight "flickering" of some
cars at the beginning and cars appearing suddenly>rarely happened though).
The frame rate was as good as when played alone.

We had a bit of problems configuring the connections(we could only make it work
when my friend called me)

Here's a copy of the message I got from this page's Forum (
http://www.f1racingsim.com/index.html  )that explained me how to do it.
I don't have the original author's name anymore but I certainly thank him
because I had a lot of fun playing through modem...

Cheers!

Hi, for those of you lucky enough to have a friend in your local area (no long
distance charges) here's a trick for you to play over the modem!!

First you need the microsoft plus pack, install it. Then in dial-up networking
options you'll have the ability to act as a dial-up server. Then your friend
only has to setup a dialup connection to your house, and you're all set to go
play f1 racing like if you were on a network!!

We did this succesfully at 14.400 bps and it was perfect!

The one who dials must setup his connection by checking the IPX protocol (IPX
protocol must also be installed in win95).

Anyway, try it it's definetely worth a try!!

See ya

I'm the one who wrote this message on the f1racingsim forum,
I was wondering, since you tried it succesfully, have you noticed a
bug. When racing, if i was behind my friend there was no problem and i
could really be on his tail and stay real close, but when I was ahead
it was like the real position of my car was behind where I actually
was... Let me try to explain it, when I was ahead and he was close to
me I noticed my car's wheel making sounds like If I was skidding and
that is on a straight!! my KPH was decreasing, it was like my friend
was slowing me!

I thought the problem may be because I run the voodoo version and he
runs the d3d versions (both v1.5 patch applied)...

Any suggestions to correct this problem?
We were running at 14.4 kbps

See you
