2 questions about video cards

by Phillip Arche » Sat, 03 Mar 2001 10:51:50

I have just upgraded to a 1Ghz Athlon on a Via KT133a M/B (Gigabyte) and (as
always) am now looking to upgrade the video card (never ending circle -
isn't it?). Lately I've been hearing some horror stories about NVidia cards
on Via M/Boards and wondered:
 1) Can anyone give me any detail about problems with this combo -
specifically with a GeForce 11 GTS
 2) Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) using a Radeon card with
the usual car sims (GPL, GP3, Rallymasters, F12K,  NFS5 etc)

Any comments would be appreciated (I need to spend some more money :-)
                    TIA..
                    Phillip..

Ask Tom Pabst..at least he can point you to some websites that have
some information on them.   I think it is not so much a Via/Nividia problem,
but a Via/WINDOWS ACPI problem that is more common on Nvidia systems.  I
don't have any details tho...Tom is one on the lead with that
topic.

From my experience with Via chipsets, all that is needed to get an Nvidia card
working properly is Via's 4 in 1 driver update which can be downloaded from
their website.  I have both a TNT2 and a GeForce 2 MX and they work fine.

Phillip,

I run Nasar4 and GPL on my Duron 750/Soyo KT133 motherboard and have nothing
but good things to say about my 32DDR Radeon card.  I get 40-75 fps online.
Never srops below 40.
