F1 2000 Help Needed for Editing AI setup and Grip

Hello,

I really want to play this sim because of the interest in keeping up
with the current race schedule but it is hard to get out of the blocks
with the way things are.  I've made some changes to visuals, changed
the car paint schemes and frame rate is just fine.

How do I get the AI cars to use a different  setup?

Which field do I change to reduce grip in the teradry file?  Is it the
[roads]  TFCOF ?

I also don't understand how to change the braking value to 6000 or
whatever. which file is this in?

thank you for your support.

Boy I hope someone can do something with the sounds. I don't
understand ISI.  They have great real car samples playing in the menus
and then give us some 80's arcade synthetic sound for the incar...

> How do I get the AI cars to use a different  setup?

It's a little convoluted.

The AI setups are in /F1 2000/Save, and
a .svm extension.  The only way I know
of to edit them is to copy one to the
/F1 2000/Save/Player (or your name)
directory.  When it's in that directory,
you can edit like any other setup.  One
odd thing about it, though, is that the
7th gear has to be set to N/A.  After
you've edited it and saved it, copy it
back to the /F1 2000/Save directory.

One other file is Game.gdb in
\F1 2000\Season00.  It tells the AI
what setup to use during qualifying,
and what to use during a race, for
every track.

Make a race setup with hard tires and
a full fuel load, and a qual setup with
soft tires and a small fuel load, then
enter the new file names in game.gdb.

Fun, eh?  If anyone know a better way,
please tell us.

Yes.  I like it set to about 0.9.  For fun, I like
to give the rumble strips a lower value, maybe 0.8.

It's in the default.vhs file in
\F1 2000\Season00\Vehicles. The
entry is:

[CONTROLS]
braking_ratio=(XXXXX.X)

np :)

Me too.

I had previously posted a 'fix' for the TerraDry.aiw file
to give less grip for the track surface.

Having played this for a little bit more, I have refined the
settings some more, and now feels just about right.

I have also further modified the visuals, so that the dust
kickup from the fringes of the track is more 'interesting'.

The file can be found at...

http://www.btinternet.com/~si.phi/TerraDry.aiw

Install into Season00/Tracks directory.

Let me know what you think.

Why do you set the rumble strip TFCOF so high?
Seems to me they should have quite a bit less
grip than the track surface.  That's how it
felt in GP2 as well.

Thanks Simon,

Brazil seems much improved BUT try SPA (Eau Rouge), uuhhhoooh it's
kinda funny, but I really don't know how this is going to get solved.
I'm waiting for Schumi's patch.  If that does not work then we will
all have to badger ISI.

Regards Mike

I think I kept it high because it gives you a bit of a jolt back onto the
track.
As rumble strips are generally raised from the track surface (and angled?)
they
would give a small 'push' back towards the track, as you went across them.
I also changed the TFSink, to give them a bit of height.

Overall, it means that you have to treat them with a bit more care, as they
are
likely to unsettle you car, unless you run soft or high.

Are you saying GP2 had grippy or slippy rumble strips.

I will lower the TFCOF setting for the rumblestrips later and see how it
feels.

I have not tried Spa with these settings - I used Silverstone and Brazil as
my
test tracks. I will give it a go and see how it behaves.

Thanks for the info.
