Just wanted to find out how many people are actually going to run in
NRO.  I know I won't get an ACTUAL number, but just wanting to get an
idea.
How will this thing work...?  Will I have to hook up to my ISP, and
then through the TEN software; or what?  I'm just confused as to how all
these connections are made.  And what is Concentric?  Is it yet ANOTHER
service I'll have to subscribe to, on top of my ISP and TEN...?  Will
this cost be an hourly charge, or what?
I was reading in Sierra's magazine that "quarterly championship races
will be held on Saturdays..."  Do they realize that most of us lead a
somewhat NORMAL life on Saturdays...?  Or what about us guys that race
(or at least work on) REAL Late Models on Saturday nights...AT A
NASCAR-SANCTIONED TRACK???

I plan on racing in the NRO myself and I with am currently a member of
TEN.  If things stay how they are now with TEN you would connect to TEN
via your ISP.  Concentric is the ISP that lets TEN run on it's lines.
TEN advertises that you'll a better connection and lesser latency by
using Concentric as your ISP.  Problem is that they are not nation wide,
so they could be a problem for some people.

As for the saturday thing, I would give up a Saturday or 5 if I am lucky
enuogh to be running for the championship.  I'll just go out on friday
nights 8).  As an aside how did you get into running late models? I
would like to do that myself.

Thanks

To race NRO you will only need your existing ISP and a hookup to TEN.
Ten offers different price plans.  Myself, I plan on racing a lot once
NRO starts so I opted for the monthly flat fee with TEN.  If you think
you will only race once or twice a week you may want to get the hourly
rate.  As for Concentric, that is nothing more then an Online Service
and you probably will not need to sign on with them.  Your ISP should be
good enough.  Ten recommends Concentric because they claim that
Concentric servers will be better prepared to handle the intensive
graphics requirement of NRO while keeping the latency rate low.   Hope
this helps.

Give us a break...  PAPYRUS even says INTERNET wont work, By using
CONCENTRIC you save $.95 cents an hour surcharge and you better be
prepared to use long distance phones calls to reach an enhanced
server...

I would LOVE to race in NRO...but they insist on "credit cards only".
Sorry, I don't do credit cards.  I would be happy to do direct
withdrawal or pay in advance with a substantial deposit, but
apparently TEN can't be bothered with those of us who prefer not to
enrich the credit card companies.  Papyrus, are you listening?  Lots
of "pay-per-minute" online services manage to offer alternatives to
credit cards.  Any chance you can get TEN to change their policies?

  Dave,
Thanks for the info.  I don't do credit cards either.  Too much
paperwork IMO.  I pay for my ISP by cash (they're only about 5 miles
away...much faster than by mail too).  Well, I think that someone needs
to look into this, and if they want my money to run NRO, then I need an
alternative way to pay.  I'm sure MANY others feel the same.

The Sierra Catalog Interactor has a very good article on the NROS.
Basically you'll have a week to complete a race against other league
members.  Many races will be availablel to run so the fact you work or
have other things to do won't matter.  Two results thrown out and then
after totallying the scores, the top four will join other top fours
for a run-off.

I READ that; where do you think I got that info from?  I was talking
about the fact that the championship series (the 5-week series) HAD to
be run on a Saturday.  I spend a lot of time preparing a Late Model
Stock car for our local NASCAR-sanctioned track, which happens to run on
Saturday nights.  I don't wanna be in a points chase at both the NRO and
the local track, only to give up my NRO slot because I have to work on
REAL car to keep IT in the hunt....

With all due respect, there is no single time that could be chosen
such that every single human on the N2-driving planet could
participate. No matter what was chosen, some subset of the population
was bound to be excluded.

It's unfortunate that your real life racing efforts may preclude a
championship bid, but if NRO "fixed" it for you, it'd become "broken"
for someone else.

Jim, with all due respect, how do you know that by "fixing" Saturday
nights, you're not hurting a majority instead of a minority?  Just
curious...

I don't, and I didn't mean to claim to. I didn't make that decision. I
presume that whomever made the decision did some investigating and
didn't just pick some arbitrary time from a dartboard.

For the record I would state a weekday Mon-Thu would be a better choice since
people tend to do more on the weekends especially during the summer months. I
know for one I won't be able to be there as much on a weekend as I would be a
weekday. But then again I'm still trying to figure out how in the heck I'm
gonna connect to NRO to begin with.
